pto alignment

I'm at the point in age where I have trouble swinging the cap off a bottle of Jim Beam, never mind a 60' bush or tiller.

Also I ain't got no mid PTO on my 35 to select /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif bcs

bcs,

Hard to decide which is most enjoyable, removing the cap from Jim Bean for an evening of drink or a full day of tractoring. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just don't do both.

Many tractors have a brake on the pto, and there is no turning then, whatever position you put any available selectors.

What I do is put a crowbar through the knuckle of my bigger implements to turn the implement pto to line things up.

However, the new machines have totally covered knuckles now, so that is out.

So, I don't know how this is supposed to be done? Perhaps we should each be assigned a saftey engineer to attach our implements for us, since they have not left any workable options. (My big implements are a 9' mower/conditioner & a 5x6' baler - hooking them up to a 85hp Ford with hyd pto brake. Need a prybar & place to pry to turn one or the other!)

I have to agree with Chris. Once in a while you will have to struggle. For instance: You will get where you can easily put an implement on or off in minutes. Then one day, without warning, you will have to struggle for about thirty minutes, accompanied by sweat, swearing, skinned knuckles, greasy shirt, ant bites, high blood pressure, a lost pin, and maybe a broken two x four.

On my L3010, while you can turn the shaft by hand, it physically feels like there is a large lever on the end of the shaft. It feels like you are picking this lever up, and once you let go of the shaft, it drops back down with a distinctive clunk, right back to the originial position. Engine on or off. I have the DT version, mechanical shift. Hence the PTO lever is to the right and behind the seat. With the engine running I can bump the PTO with the lever and move it incrementally. Usually takes a few tries but then it lines right up. My dad's older dual stage clutches were easy. The PTO shaft turned with thumb and forefinger. Not so on my Kubota. I admit, it's a pain to deal with.

Isn't it way past time for one of our Power Trac owners to tell us how easy it is for them to change implements? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

However, yesterday I struggled with it for 45 min., bent over in an awkward postion, engaging the pto, trying again, looking at it again, swearing, etc

The solution I found was to install a PTO overrun clutch. While it is not nessasary on newer tractors, it prevents wear to the PTO breaks ( if your tractor has them ), and makes hooking the PTO up a snap.

Certainly should have a mid PTO(standard feature on DK 35)
