Pto coupler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand the cover, covers the "standard" PTO shaft. But, how do you cover the area over/around the overrunning coupler? Not standard on newer tractors. Does the cover on the PTO shaft extend over the overrunning coupler? Is it a seperate cover/gaurd? Does anyone have a photo of what it should look like with a overrunning coupler?

Yes, they do and other body parts also. I know one guy that cracked several vertebra when he got his gloved hand caught. I also know an other guy that is now speaking a little higher from stepping over a unshielded PTO shaft. Actually, both were very luck that they were not killed. )

Well, it just gives me chills to think about that. I would never even dismount my tractor with the PTO running.

If I ever get a generator or other stationary PTO operated equipment, I will not even go near it when its engaged. I'll use a long, limber stick to adjust things. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Both of my NH tractors I've had ( my ex 1920 and my current 7610s ) have a large metal shield that is roughly crescent shaped.. and it extends out from the back of the tractor about 2-3" past the pto stub. Now.. the rubber shroud of the pto shaft extends 3-4" from the yoke. on both sides. What this looks like hooked up, is the pto shaft stub cannot be seen. The collar on the pto shaft slides back and the tractors collar lifts up.

Even my 10' mower that has a torque limiter on it.. has a large pan shield with wings and a scaloped cutout in front that only has room for pto shaft travel, and it completely obscures the slip clutch. No moving driveline anywhere. And the pto shaft has the little lock chains on both halves.

thanks for the better explanation of how the "coupler" works.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif i know i'm glad i got it with the package deal.....no pto cover was on the tractor when i was shopping. none of the units i looked at had them(three different dealers), i think inspector 507 is right, not required on "greys".... thanks for the safety warnings..
BTW, put 3 more hrs on "miss alma" yesterday afternoon, she just keeps on purring along.....no flames...
