I'm installing a PTO winch on the 3-point of my 2008 Kubota L3400 tractor. I've never dealt with a PTO before. I need an inexpensive driveline from the tractor's standard 6-spline, to the 3/4" round shaft on the winch (with 3/16" keyway). The driveline overall length will be about 24" and should telescope at least a couple of inches each way to allow the hitch to move up and down. The output is not directly aligned with the winch, but the approximate offset is 20 degrees or less in any direction.

Where should I shop for inexpensive drivelines or components?

Where should I look for the non-standard part I need to connect to the 3/4" round shaft on the winch?

What series/strength driveline do I really need for a 34HP tractor when the maximum winch load will be 2,000 lbs and PTO max speed is 540 RPM?

Is a 22-inch (compressed) driveline slip shaft available, or do I have to buy a longer one and cut it down? Any recommendations for shaft tube shape?

Is a torque-limiting device (such as a clutch) really necessary?

Try Tractor Supply for components. PTO to round is used on many pto pump arrangements, but usually done straight off the pto stubshaft. Are you needing to couple from a spline female on a pto slipshaft to a male round on the winch? How is the winch restrained on the 3ph? Pictures? Sounds like some specialized parts that may be more readily available from the winch people if they are marketing it for PTO 3point use.

When I built a driveline for a bale elevator I was able to buy an adapter piece which had the standard 6 spline on the outside with a round hole with set screws on the inside. This alowed me to buy a reletively inexpensive PTO shaft with the standard 6 spline female at each end and use it. The adapter piece was less than $10, it just looks like a male 6 spline until you look into the end of it.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate the advice, keep it coming.

Does anyone know where I can find an adapter like that -- 6 spline male to 3/4" round bore female (preferrably with 3/16" keyway)?

The winch (Ramsey, off a 1964 Jeep) will sit on the lift bar between the arms of the 3 point hitch. A triangular brace will attach to the top mount for vertical stability.

The winch has a male 3/4" shaft with 3/16" keyway. (The old U-joint was rusted to the unit, with a female 3/4" keyed bore, I still have it but don't trust it. It had a set screw in each end.)

I'm being quoted around $150-190 for a complete driveline. Does that sound about fair?

Hub City Inc -has all kinds of oddball adapters.
I'm sure you have your reasons but you could buy several new 12v 2000 lb electric winches for what the stuff to do this will probably cost you:D

Does your winch have a reverse? Most PTOs don't so you would have no power out if you have no way to reverse rotation....

Hub City doest seem to list a spline to round bore bushing like Todd described. That would seem an ideal solution.

Please tell me if you think one of these would work... and where you would look to find the missing piece. I've been searching Surplus Center, Hub City, Partsco, Tractor Supply...

Option 1 --
Would this adapter work? Or this similar adapter?

...combined with a PTO driveline -- but I can't find one with a male 6-spline end to go with this adapter.

Option 2 --
Ideally I would find an adapter like above but male, on the spline end, so I can insert it in any regular driveline assembly and go. But I haven't found one yet.

Option 3 --
Can I add this female 3/4" yoke (see Series 1 or 2) to just any PTO driveline by replacing one of the standard 6-spline yokes on the driveline?

This other yoke looks right but the description doesn't seem to match.

Any advice will be appreciated.

My interpretation of your system description says that option 3 is best [next to the one Todd described]. You must assure that the new yoke mates with the U Joint you have. Make good side by side measurements before trying to substitute it in your joint. TSC will take it back if you havent damaged it.

Your option 1 combined with a 6 spline extension piece(I saw one on the same sight as your adapter) with a standard PTO shaft would be the easiest from what I see. I bought the adapter I got at a NAPA store.
