I designed a system like this but never finished building it.
Mine was to power a water pump.
I took the PTO drive shaft on my brush hog since it had a round shaft.
Then I bought a piece of DOM tube with a 3/4 inch hole in the center
and with an outside diameter to fit in the PTO drive shaft.
I planned to weld the DOM tube to the 3/4 shaft and drill a hole
thru both of them to accept the shear bolt for the brush hog.
Maybe this will give you an idea.
Get a piece of DOM tube to fit a PTO drive shaft you have,
then drill and tap a hole all the way thru it to accept a short bolt
from both sides. You could get a keyway cut into your "bushing"
and let one of the bolts hold the key in place. Works in theory anyway.
