Hmmm, maybe quality has changed in 35 years (no surprise). All of ours worked great on 2 sickle mowers, baler, and a couple brushhogs. Now granted when first purchased they could be stiff, we just oiled them and hit them with a hammer a few times then they worked great.

Yes quality has changed especially with imported couplers. Some of the new ones are terrible.

I have had good luck with my push button. I spray it down with WD Specialist PTFE Dry Lube before using it and after using it. I also spray the shaft, which makes it easier to move in and out while connecting. My dad is old school and never sprays or greases, then ends up mumbling and grumbling as he works on getting his PTO shaft on/off. Yet at 74, it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks. (When he isn't around I have started greasing his stuff and trying to work on getting things loosened up for him.)

PTO Link is also one. I like the look but for $399, I still have a hammer and wd40.

This is where I'm at.

The reason for manufacturers moving to pull back collars probably has something to do with not grabbing clothes as quick.

You are right, the pullback/forward collars are a lot safer.

I was looking at the Link for a few days, It was in the lineup until I saw a Youtuber struggle to connect it.
