I ended up buying a 16kW PTO unit from IMD.

I picked it up at their plant in Greer SC. Very nice company to deal with, and I'm very happy with the generator so far. I appreciate the advice from you all.

I read the description /tech: nice one!

Question for you: do you have special ups protection for hi-end such a TV or sound system, on my side my protected ups - plasma don't really appreciate gen power?! Is the IMD well accepted with those fancy voltage appliances?

By UPS, do you not mean Uninterruptible Power Supply? I have no UPS's in the house. My TVs are all LCD, so they will run natively on DC, with power supplies built into the TVs' cases. I haven't tried them on genny power yet. So with no experience, I can't say for sure if they'll like the genny's power, but I would have guessed they would be the least of my worries. I'm more concerned about getting the voltage and frequency correct for the motors, like on my well pump and heat pump. All our PCs are laptops with separate power bricks, so again I expect they will be fine.

One thing I discovered the hard way is that some portable power tool chargers cannot tolerate modified sinwave. My Sears drill chargers failed. My DeWalt chargers seem OK.

Yes ups like tripplite
UPS Systems & Battery Packs | Tripp Lite

Usually electrical-pump are not fussy, my well pump won't mind 110 or 130 volt but for the children (absolute must...) TV hook on ups just won't start up (un-clean power alarm from ups). Inverter just for entertain purpose appear to me far fetch, but for other, I guess is life threatening...

This is just for information, Many UPS's will not like generators with their factory settings as they see the power as "dirty", BUT, many of the APC UPS's can be programmed to ignore the "dirty power and accept it to stop the cycling process from line power to battery power and stay on line power (in this case the power the genny provides) and go ahead and charge the battery's and run on this dirty power. I had to do that with a couple of my APC units to get them to settle down. Otherwise you are just going to run the UPS for your TV a few minutes or an hour or two depending on the size of the UPS then you are done as they will never recharge their battery's off of the " dirty" line. You can download the owners manuals of the APC units on line to get the information on how to do this.. I Don't know about Triplite and Minutemen, or others, as I always liked and used APC brand.

James... top notch! Thanks! I will try to tame my Tripplite, but I must admit that having just the essential running force the whole family to talk during supper time and... OMG playing card was actually so much fun; dauthers did appreciate... (but I didn't push my luck, left the cottage after two days...)

The deal I got with IMD included a 3-pt hitch platform. It too is nicely built, with quality fasteners and good powder coating.
