PTO generator sizing

Most times, I run a 15kw gen on my 12.5 pto Kubota...

It runs my whole house, no problem at all, here I was just pulling a light load, so no attempt was made to set it up for a long run.

BUT we aren't a power hungry family either, no electric heat or electric cook stove...

It easily runs my freezers, fridge, pump and lights, TV ect... You don't even know you are on a generator.

Hey everyone, I知 pretty sure I致e read it here multiple times, but want to double check, got a 28 PTO HP new holland, which should run about 14,000 watts.. can I use a 25,000 watt/50,000 surge watt pto generator With about a 10,000 watt load? Reason for the large generator is it is for sale and a good deal.

You 28HP NH would carry an 18Kw load continiuosly.

Doing a little research after seeing this thread, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter how much I need to run the whole house. My 16 hp tractor tops out with a 7200 amp generator anyway. Pretty sure my heat pump will take a lot more than that to keep the house warm. But, if I can power the fire place fan, the frig, the microwave, coffee maker and a couple of lights available, we'll survive till the power comes back on. Or, I run out of diesel.

With "all the losses" through the system, you can pull 14kw out of a 28 pto hp tractor...

Those quoting higher, aren't figuring in the losses...

It’s a 35 hp, and I can turn it up to 40 if needed, but I think the turbocharged 35 hp will probably run all my needs. I don’t need over 14,000 Watts, and that’s with every single thing on in the house which would never happen.

Are all PTO generators “clean power” producers? Ie less than 5% THD.

This is a name brand “Dayton” generator, as far as being clean, I believe as long as it will stay in the 60-61 HZ frame, nothing will be effected by it?

IIRC, it needs the rpm set correctly, and the tractor's governor hopefully will keep it close enough.

Big ticket power hungry items are strip heaters, dryers, water heater, stove/range. Manage those and you can get by.

I use a coal stoker boiler for all heat and domestic water.

I think this new holland is going to shine with a PTO generator, it is turbocharged which will help keeping RPMs steady wth different demands, and it also has ESM, which is engine speed management, similar to cruise control, which allows me to set the rpm down to the single revolution per minute so I think it will keep the RPMs extremely steady!

I would be surprised if they were, but I don't actually know the answer to your question.

BUT, you can look up the specs of the gen set you are interested in and see if it is...

My Winco is advertised to make clean power and I have never had any problem with anything I've run with it, so I assume it is making clean power.

I think a good way to not have a problem is, size the generator a little bigger than you need, then it will run cooler and put out the steady power you need, even if you have a surge load...
