I知 tried getting a rusted up pto shaft to work and the push pin was stuck. After some penetrating oil and a hammer it came free but the spring inside is broken. I don稚 see how it is held in other than maybe the end of the housing is crimped. It doesn稚 have a stem and snap ring like some pictures I have seen. This is off of a 60-70 Ford flail mower.

There is an E clip that retains the push pin. Remove the E clip and the pin will drop out. You'll need a sharp pointed to to pop it.

Thanks for the help, I looked it over and can’t see the e clip. Where should it be?

If it has an E clip it will be on the side that the button sticks out on. However it appears peened to me.

That’s what it looks like, so do I need to just drive the pin out? How would I get it to stay in next time?

Drive it out and buy a replacement that uses the E clip.

Not sure how replacement with "E" clip will function because process of peening over surrounding metal is totally different process to secure spring and pin with "E" clip.... Maybe tack weld small washer (proper size) in place of peening to retain spring and pin would be better solution...

I bought a replacement pin and spring today but won’t be home until Monday to try it out. Does anyone think I could thread the spring in from the back side and not take the old pin out?

I couldn’t get the spring threaded in but I did knock the pin out , put the sling and pin back in then used a small chisel to close it back up. Seems to be working good now.
