Recently I bought an airblast orchard sprayer with a blower that pushed my new MX5100 to the limit. Actually the blades had an adjustable pitch which I had to lower to the mid range to get 540 rpm's out of the PTO. I was also getting nearly 20GPM at 300psi out of the pump. Both are driven off the PTO.
Now here is the strange part, I was experimenting back and forth between Low and medium speed range. The PTO seemed to deliver more PTO power in mid range. This is the first time I ran the sprayer and I won't be running again until spring, and I did not document this finding. Now don't misunderstand me, there was not a big difference but it certainly seemed like there was a little difference. Is the higher speed range creating a little inertia power or flywheel affect on the PTO. Most of my use to this point has been with ground engaging equipment where low seems to give me more power. Does the PTO driven implements work differently?
