Hi all, as the title says I have a problem with my PTO on my Ford 1210.
Let me give you the details, I have rebuilt this tractor complete, during the rebuild I removed the PTO shaft and replaced the seal and today was the first time of testing, which brings me to this problem.
When facing the PTO shaft, this is what I have found :-
When engine is off and PTO disengaged I can freely turn the PTO shaft by hand both anti clockwise and clockwise.
When engine is off and PTO is engaged cannot turn anti clockwise (something to do with one way clutch assembly may be) but can turn clockwise.
When engine is off and PTO engaged, if depress clutch pedal can turn PTO shaft both anti clockwise and clockwise.
When engine is running and PTO disengaged cannot turn PTO shaft anti clockwise but can turn clockwise.
When engine is running and PTO engaged PTO will sometimes, turn clockwise (by hand cannot stop) for 10 or so revolutions then stop, if you then turn it by hand, it will start turning again for another 10 or so revolutions.
According to the Ford manual the 1210 does not have a one way clutch assy, but mine has definitely got one.
So can anyone make any suggestions from the information above as to what is the problem, and what does one do about it.
Just as an observation, this tractor is about 1986 build and the PTO shaft is "like new" I do not think it has ever been used !!
