Ok, thank you for the quick reply.

I figure the best thing is maybe to try the tiller with the tines as they are and see how they perform?
I have read a number of posts suggesting that forward direction tilling is better for riding over any obstacles, small rocks and pebbles and that is the the direction the tiller is operating but the tines are facing the opposite way?
Or can you tell me have I got it wrong?

Cheers Ian

If you were standing on the drivers side of the tiller, the rotation of the tines is CCW yes?

Yes, that is correct they move CCw from the drive side, but should I expect the point of the tine to hit the soil first?

I'm not sure. Can you show us a pic? It seems like everything is ok. Bolens does not have a backaswards pto direction. Unless you have a left handed 'tiller, you should be ok.

iseki tillerpic.jpghopefully can? not the best picture but hopefully you can see the position/direction of the tines, and of course that they go anti clockwise.

cheers Ian

edit ok thanks for your replys, i have looked on youtube at different tillers in operation and they all appear to turn in the same diection and with the tines in the same direction as mine? so all should be good? its just not the directions i expected the tines to operate!

ok thanks again Ian

Do not feel bad there are some tillers that came from Japan back when Gray market Tractors were coming over that did run clockwise. There is a great amount of information on here for the asking. Welcome to the site.

AND some of those tractors had PTO's that ran backwards too...

At least, backwards from todays standard...

I knew nothing about tillers years ago and was surprised the tines actually rotate to help move the tractor forward. Seems like most things work against the tractor's motion (brooms, cultivators, plows, etc.) whereas tillers actually need the tractor to hold it back. Kinda opposite what you might expect I guess so I understand where you're coming from.
