Hi all, the Zetor we have has two positions on the PTO (not counting Neutral).

One position is - Ground speed of PTO shaft (through gearbox) - PTO shaft speed depends upon the engaged gear speed

The other position is - Independent speed of PTO shaft - PTO shaft speed depends upon the engine speed (540 RPM PTO)

With respect to mowing, ie.. pulling a PTO driven "bush-hog" type shredder, which is recommended?


Aside from mowing, what are some examples of how or why you'd choose either of those positions?

You'd use your gear powered for planters, etc. that you want to slow down when the tractor does.
The PTO setting will keep a cutter or baler operating if you have to stop for a branch or fawn your path. It's easier on some equipment if it keeps spinning, esp if the PTO engagement is jerky.
On my old MF with both, I never used the ground-speed setting for mowing, etc.
