Why wait Jim, you could do that now. Get a batwing setup and if your tractor needs more hydraulic flow, add a pump to the PTO, (don't forget your shaft guard!) and your off. Seriously though, having the hydraulic flow to not only run a batwing but a front mounted auger, snowblower etc. would surely make a nice setup. Bobcats TOOLCAT does this. 72" mower is hydraulic as well as all other attachments. Eliminates the whole PTO shaft shield problem.

P.S. hows that joystick?

My tiller doesn't have a PTO shaft cover. I don't think adding one to this implement would be doing much in the way of making it more safe.

25 years ago.. none of my dad's equipment had safety shields.. we were taught safety on PTO's the in same way as guns.. if not handled properly.. and specific actions were not taken.. that it could kill you. The safety shield provides an additional layer of safety for everyone.. and saves the lives of those who do not take the proper precautions. Though the safety shields are sometimes a pain to deal w/.. unshielded PTO's are very unforgiving. Everyone please be safe.. take the proper precautions.. an ounce of prevention.. will save your life.. and the ones you love!

I guess the worst "what if" story I saw on TV.. Sixteen year old boy.. had both arms ripped off his body.. when he became conscience.. he saw his arms laying on the ground beside him.. he managed to get back to his house.. dial 911.. and went and sat in the tub to wait for them so he wouldn't get blood on the floor.

GSS, you hit the nail on the head! All the warnings/stickers/guards, etc. are an attempt to stop the product liability lawyers from writing blank checks on the manufacturers bank accounts. I heard that story a while ago and it sounded credible - think he used a pencil in his mouth. I bet JMIII has the goods on this one, being the safety guy he is.

Jim, I too like the idea of those hydraulic mowers, post hole diggers, etc. And they obviously work well for lots of folks, but I know a guy who bought a hydraulic hay mower/conditioner to run behind his 100hp John Deere and the last I heard, he still hadn't been able to solve a problem with overheating his hydraulics. I don't know whether that's an unusual problem, whether he got too big a mower, or just what. He doesn't have other problems as far as I know, but the tractor is an older one.
