I recently broke the PTO off my 140HP Case Int 7110 when flail mowing with it. At first I thought it was caused by over running, sine the flail has so much inertia. But the stub twisted off in a clockwise direction which may mean the tractor was overpowered. Do PTO adapters protect the tractor shaft in these events?

A properly adjusted slip clutch, or even the correct shear pin/bolt would have protected the tractor.
