Massey Ferguson 135
OK, So I have now purchased a 3point snowblower for my Massey 135. I have attached the snowblower without any issues (I will take the small victories when I can). The question I have is in regards to my PTO settings (ground speed and engine speed), I have no issues engaging my PTO in and out of ground speed, the problem I am having is putting it in engine speed. I start my tractor engage the clutch and cannot engage my PTO in engine speed. Doing the same thing I can engage in and out of ground speed no problem. I have to shut my tractor off, disconnect the PTO shaft from my tractors PTO, then I can engage my engine speed setting of my PTO (smoothly and without hesitation). Then reconnect my PTO and the snowblower works fine at engine speed. If I come out of engine speed, I cannot reengage unless I disconnect my PTO and do the process all over again.

Been a long time since I was last on a 135, you sure the clutch and pto work that way?

It is fairly common for the pto to disengage when you clutch for saftey reasons. Putting it in neutral though should allow the pto to function, if it's not, the snowblower might be binding up the pto if you dont have an overrunning clutch on the shaft or the overrunning clutch might be too tight/seized.

Check the free play on the clutch pedal, but do you have to remove the PTO shaft from the blower to move it in to PTO engaged? Can you turn the PTO on the tractor by hand? Any noise og movement on the tractors PTO?

I'm confused by what you mean by engine speed and ground speed. On my tractor I can engage the pto lever when the clutch is fully pressed in. I usually lower the rpm's to idle before doing this but there's no grinding or resistance at all on the lever.

If you are pushing the clutch pedal ALL the way (two stage clutch) the PTO lever should go in, might be some slight gear noise, then release clutch pedal from 2nd stage and PTO should start.

You have to come to a complete stop to put the PTO in gear.

Does the PTO stop turning when you push the clutch all the way in?

Some tractors will have a ground speed pto when it is in the ground speed mode it turns faster the faster the tractors ground speed does,
this is used when you have an implement that needs a different speed as the tractors gound speed changes. Some of the early pto rakes worked nicely with a ground speed pto, the Europeans seem to use it for powered trailer drives to gain more traction. That purpose is not common in the US.
As far as the engine speed pto I believe the Massy is using a two stage clutch, partially depressing the clutch should allow the tractor to stop with the pto still operating while fully depressing the clutch should disengage the pto from the engine power. These clutches can be a pain to get properly adjusted as often it is not just the external linkages but also the height of the clutch fingers that need adjustment.
If the engine speed pto is grinding too much while trying to engage it with the clutch fully depressed you can try shuting the engine down then engaging the pto then starting the engine with the clutch fully depressed and it may work for you.

I have a Massey 165 with a dual stage clutch. If it isn't adjusted properly trying to engage the pto will grind gears. Set your clutch for the 2 stages properly and it will work. You have to do the main adjustment on your clutch and then the 2 stage.
