You'd be better off renting a chipper for a weekend.

This is'nt an option. I have six acres of limbs, debre, stumps, and logs that where'nt good enough to carry off.
I cant say the name moreless spell it, but it's the organge truck company. I had them estimate the job for me. They estimated it would take them 3 weeks. I cant see myself paying them to do the job and they going to sell the mulch and keep all the money. I've just about have enough orders to cover the price of most of the PTO chippers I've looked at so far.

Wesdor what stood out the most was the jinma. Seems to be that is the favorite. I will look into the Wallenstein though thanks for the suggestion.

After interpolating the prices of the models above and below the 170, I have come to the conclusion that list price should be around $10,000. At least.

I just ordered a Wallenstein BX42 (4" chipper). They also have a 6" chipper (BX62). I ordered the manual feed. You can get a hydraulic feed but the cost just about doubles. My cost was $2,400+

I also looked at the Bearcat mentioned and it is equally good. We had a Wallenstein dealer close by, which was the main factor. You also see a lot of mention of the Jimna, which seems to work well after you make some improvements. I wanted something that was good right out of the box.

I bought a bearcat and simply love it. I bought a Jinma originally - it was a total piece of crap. If you like to work on stuff and re-engineer things - get a Jinma. If you want to go clean stuff up and chip - get something else.

I forget the model number right now, but I can look it up.

The bearcat is a solid rig.

Buy some extra blades for the chipper and spare belt.

I got my extra blades aftermarket.

The belt - I just like to have spares around. it took a month to get it - sure glad I was not in a hurry.

Yikes
Man those prices are high. I picked up a very used Mighty Bandit Chipper 6" capacity with a 20HP Onan gas engine. Chipper was frozen. Had a blade crack off the flywheel and wedged it's way in there. I was able to back out the flywheel and clear the obstruction. Ran fine after that. Got it for $1800 and have been offered $3500 for it now. My plan was to use it for a year or so while I cleared some of the property, then sell it for a profit and use the proceeds for a new Jinma chipper and assorted implements. We'll see

If I had a greater need for a larger unit, I'd look at the LITW chipper at either, Affordable Tractor or Ranch Hand Supply. There was (is?) a opening order price special that was a steal. 6" w/ hydraulic feed, powder coated. I have that companys backhoe so, I can say their quality is right on.

Thats me. If I build something I do it from the ground up. If I buy something I want it to work good out the box.

Has anyone had much experience with the Salsco chipper. It is built in CT in the Salsco plant. I have seen a 6" Salsco and it weighs in at over 800 lbs., a real rugged unit. I am in the market for a 6" and have kind of narrowed it to the Wallenstein or the Salsco, dealers for both are local. With a 20 ac woodlot with lots of hardwood, I need something that will stand up to the work, and handle up to 4"+. I burn anything bigger, and most down to 3". Looking for feedback.

JDPN, I liked what I saw in the valby 170. I could'nt find a price on that bugger. Thanks thats the best I've found so far. Skid steer is out of the question for now. I dont have one.

ChuckinNH, thanks for the info. I did'nt see a bearcat that ran off a PTO. I'll have to look again.

kennyd, I know what your talking about I've been reading all day about woodchippers. Its been raining here. Theres alot of info on chippers. Its sorta crazy that JD has a forest line but no chippers. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a Valby 170 and it kicks ***. The 140 and 170 are same except the 170 spins faster which makes for a finer chip and throws it farther. Makes others look like toys, BUT it's got a prety hefty price tag.

Farmi Skidding Winches JL 290 is where I got mine. It was north of $6k. The power feed, easy load etc work awesome.

Does anybody have any suggestions on a pto driven woodchipper? Last Oct. I had 6 acres of hardwoods cleared. The loggers left quit a mess. Burning is not much of a solution for me at the time. When I can burn usually my area is under a burn ban. The chipper is going to have to be a heavy duty. I've searched the JD website and cant find one. Googling does'nt find a JD woodchipper. It does brang up several other brands which none are "other tractor brandnames". I'm going to need the exhuast to be on top, the rest really does'nt matter.
Would anyone know if I used a PTO driven chipper could I raise my hydrolics as high as the can go to load a trailer etc? Not that it really matters. It'll just remove one step.

PS. Anybody know how to find the model# of my engine? I'm trying to find info on fluid capacities. Right now all I can find is by engine model not tractor model.

We bought one of these last spring and it works very well, it's now listed at $2,210 plus $170 shipping. They usually have several promo's during the year with different offers including free shipping. DRョ Power Equipment - They have a very good warranty and offer 6 months full refund (including shipping) if you are not satisfied for any reason. We got the one with the top discharge shoot so the chips can be directed about any place you want.
