I've been scouring the internet looking at pull spreaders and there a bunch of them in the $250-500 range. I wanted a commercial quality spreader and thought I found one at ABI attachments but I'm not sure. Their current production model doesn't look nearly as good as the one in their latest catalog and it's about $1k with shipping. The price is okay but...

Any recommendations for a commercial pull spreader for my Mule? Obviously I'm not looking for homeowner quality.

I've got a Gandy drop spreader, works great for my needs, easy to fill, low maintenance.

Wasn't thinking about a drop spreader but there are advantages of that vs. broadcast. The Gandy products are exactly what I'm looking for in quality.

Thanks for the tip Gunny :drink:

How often do you plan to use it?

What capacity are you needing?

I'll have to look in my shed to see what brand I have but it's been good. Got it free off Craigslist because the wheels were frozen. Hopper holds a full bag of rye and I can pull it behind my tractor without tipping it over.

Use would be very intermittent to drop seed and/or fertilizer. I'm planning on attempting to improve some of my pastures and have a little grass around the house. Maybe 15 acres of pastures and a couple of acres or so around the house. We raise blackbuck antelope (an exotic) to sell to other ranches.

Don't know if it will help you or not, but I found mine through a rental company that was replacing equipment that had depreciated out for tax purposes. You might check auction and surplus equipment sites.
I got a very good deal on mine.

Mine is the little 85lb capacity Agri Fab with exposed gears. Sounds like you will want something larger with an enclosed gearcase.

Check out the offerings at Tractor Supply.

The Tarter may suit your needs.

I use the Lely ground driven pull behind model in my turf business. It fits my needs well, but it cost a lot more than some other models.

It is a true 'commercial' spreader. But....they are a little over $5000. Here is a link. Ground Drive Broadcast Spreader | Lely Ground Driven WFR

Thank you, $5k is a bit steep but probably a great investment for a commercial lawn business, however I always like to buy pro products.

I spread fertilizer on about 12 acres every year. We have a farm fertilizer supplier here that will fill a field spreader with the fertilizer that you order and rent the spreader to you. I get enough to spread on my pastures and yard. They can even mix pell lime with it.

That's a great service, easy-peasy for you. This is primarily ranch country with some hay being grown so we don't have any bulk suppliers like you are using as far as I'm aware of.

I think I'll postpone buying a pull spreader for a while, I just committed to buying a 300 gallon gravity feed tank for dyed diesel - $1200 plus a minimum of 150 gallons of fuel. I filled my 50 gallon portable tank yesterday and off-road diesel was $1.799 a gallon - it's the lowest I've seen in years and years. So I thought this would be a good time to buy a bulk quantity. The tank price includes hose, filter, nozzle and delivery/setup. Delivered fuel price is 20 cents more than at the pump which is fine with me.

My bulk supplier sold all of the tanks he had and he put in another order and already three of the incoming tanks are sold, one of them is mine :)

Thank you all again for the recommendations! Stay safe out there.

When you decide you are ready, I bought one similar to this off of craiglist, used like new. I like the versatility of being able to use atv, tractor or truck and still has a relatively large hopper.

I've looked at the Baby Hop, that one was on my short list. Checking Craig's List is a great idea but I'm not going shopping in person until this Kung Flu thing is over.
