I'm with the camp to go with the wireless. It's cheap, easy and let's face it, who likes digging ditches?
All you have to do is buy an inexpensive router and network card with the ability to have an external antenna attached. Search EBay for antennas. I picked up a 7dbi with a custom connector for under $15 dollars.
I'm a computer geek who does wireless security. Unless you're living in a very heavily populated area you'll have very lfew problems with hackers. Plus, WPA encription is pretty good and most (if not all) new equipment will use this if you set it up properly.
As a side note, if you have DSL or the likes, you're really not going to notice any speed drop with 802.11g or above.
