I have a trailer I would like to pull over the road that has a 4 -way flat plug (no trailer brakes ) my tc40da has no electric to plug it into.
Is there a kit I can buy to easily plug into the tractor wiring harness so I can run the lights and flashers on the trailer when on the road ?

I made a trailer ball hitch for the 3-point that I copied from the comerical ones they sell, but was wondering what will stop the trailer tounge from lifting the hitch at times...say comming over a steep rise off road ? (tounge light )

If the drop rate knob is fully closed will it prevent the trailer from lifting the 3-point ? or should I rig a chain to the drawbar or something similar to stop the trailer from lifting the hitch ?

thank you for any advice you can lend , Lone Oak .

I doubt there's a kit to adapt wiring from trailer to tractor. May be easier to get a slow moving vehicle sign (you should use this anyway) and maybe a stand-along flashing light to catch attention. Or make your own adapter.

If you have a drawbar, I'd simply use it for trailer hitch. If that isn't viable for whatever reason, I would definitely chain the three-point hitch to the drawbar to prevent the hitch from rising. Closing the valve won't stop hitch from rising.

Mike thanks for the info on the drop rate knob. I would like to use the draw bar , but it sits way too low for my trailer.
I have a SMV sign on the trailer already , but at night It would be nice to have flashers and blinkers for turns to warn the impaitent drivers around here.

Thats why I was asking and was hoping the factory or aftermarket companys made such a plug , just like the one on the truck or simillar . If not I guess I will just have to make one up custom somehow or another

How often and how far are you going to tow a trailer on the road with your tractor after dark??????

Absolutely nothing prevents the hitch from raising due to negative tongue weight, including closing the drop rate valve. I would be more concerned about this than a lack of lighting.
In the event of some kind of an incident, the most likely place for the trailer hitch to end up is sticking out of the front side of your throat.

Add a chain from your drawbar to the top of your trailer mover to stop the 3PH from rising...as for the lights it would be easy to wire your own plug.

I think the easiest spot to put a plug would be by wiring the connector to the harness going to each rear light. The white wire is the taillight and the dark green is the flasher according to my schematic. That's on the cable going directly into the lamp assemblies. I'd wire it on that side so you could disconnect at the connector if you need to isolate the lights for troubleshooting. You will also probably have to increase the fuse size in that circuit. The flasher may also flash much faster with the additional load. If that won't work, your only option is to build a dedicated taillight and flasher circuit you power directly off the main power bus.

Brake lights will be a whole different challenge since the tractor does not have brake lights and the brake switch only works when both pedals are depressed.

Well, guess I was just gettin lazy lookin for somethig I could just plug in....can't blame me for thinking there was some kind of cheap plastic pig tail made in china junk I could just snap into the harness somewhere ,could ya ?

Yall know how things are theese days ... ;)

Thanks to yall ,and jinman for saving me from having to poke to many test light holes in my wires ... should have her wired up in no time.

Sloans express has exactly what you want. If you go to their website and click farm Accessories, click lighting and electronics, click remote light control box, click LCB400 and $125 later your set.

3ph recievers are nice for hooking and unkooking trailers cause you don't have to spin the jack, just back ip and raise the 3ph.

That being said, if you use chains to keep it from raising, when they are hooked up...DO NOT USE THE 3PH. You will break stuff.

Check your local laws. It may be illegal to operate slow moving equipment on the road after dark. At least, it is not a very good idea. If your trailer is so light on the tongue that it will lift the 3point then correct that problem. 10%-20% of the trailer's weight should be on the hitch. A tongue-light trailer will fish tail and put you in the ditch (if you are lucky). Your tractor has pretty good flashers on it already. Is your trailer or the load so large as to block the tractor's lights? Like Jinman pointed out you can hook up the tractor's flashers to the trailer pretty easy. When we used to move hay wagons it was common to use battery powered flashers like you see on road construction signs. They are easily portable and don't need wiring. I applaud you efforts to make some kind of flasher work. You can't be to visible to faster moving cars. Be careful towing a heavy trailer at high speed. Your tractor only weighs about 4000lb and the brakes are marginal for this kind of work.

How can it be safe to pull a trailer with out brakes with a 1500 to 2500 pound tractor when brakes are required on the same trailer and it requires at least a 1/2 ton pick up to pull it with?

Brakes probabally wouldn't be required if the pickup's top speed was only 15 mph or so.

Wired up a plug today it flashes trailer lights and thats all I need it to do, works good enough.

I brush hog a large comerical complex about one night a week and only have to go about 3 miles round trip to the shop where I keep the trailer ,but the road is a 45mph speed limit with not much shoulder but has a few pull off spots along the way.

All I am really looking for is a way of avoiding having to get a ride back to get the truck and trailer, by just pulling it behind the tractor . I have the tractor insured and registered with a SPEC-COM plate and the trailer is legal too.

I have just as much right as any car or truck to use the road and most drivers are nice and usually wave as they pass , plus I always pull off when I can or slow down to let cars pass as often as I can ...WHAT GETS ME IS THE FEW @#*&%$#'s WHO FLIP ME THE BIRD OR LAY ON THE HORN LIKE THATS GOING TO HELP,just cause they have to slow down for a few short seconds, I will never understand them idiots they probably do the same thing to the school bus when it slows down too ...

I have a spot to leave the brush hog on the property and the trailer is only a 2999lb. No brakes needed in NYS under 3000lbs.( nothing big or heavy )

I am only hauling a john deere 304 all wheel steer lawn tractor for the tight spots and to go around the trees it weighs about 600lbs and should be fine up close over the tounge for weight.

The rest of the stuff on the trailer is just weed wacker, blower, and some other small hand tools,I travel over the road at about 10 mph or less and it is mostly flat road ,no hills so for me the set up is ok.
As far as I know in NYS a SMV is legal after dark as long as you have flashers , SMV sign, saftey chains, trailer regerstered etc. etc...you"re good to go !

Thanks for the help, Lone Oak
