Backhoe Pulling using backhoe or loader hooks--bad idea?

/ Pulling using backhoe or loader hooks--bad idea? #11
While I can still reach my drawbar with the BH on, whatever is hooked up tends to rub against the bottom of the BH while pulling. Instead, I tie around the base of the backhoe, at the bottom of the boom which is almost at the same height as the drawbar. The boom is much wider and gives me a stable spot at which to connect. I haven't had any problems pulling some pretty large trees down using this method and have never seen any signs of distress on the tractor or BH. However one does it, going slow is a must for best control. John

Thanks all for the suggestions. Sounds like using the loader isn't the best idea, so that's probably out.

In my particular case, there's no good way to attach a chain to the subframe (it either lacks an attachment point, or interferes with zerks, cylinders, or hoses). However, I may be able to use the idea of attaching to the very base of the boom. It would still be slightly unstable, since that's 3 feet behind and a couple of inches higher than the normal drawbar position; however, it's worth a careful try.

If all else fails, I can still go back to "inch-worming" my way along; it's slow, but it ultimately works.
