Pump and reservoir size

Hey, on my MT 180D I run a splinter and have no cooler provisions.
Last fall we split some 5-7 cords without a single hitch.
My splinter is a 5 inch cylinder on a H beam that is 3 point mounted.
It split everything that was presented to it and never burped.
We even cut some maple to length but that kinda stressed the H beam and made a horrible noise. LOL!
Hint--- don't over think it!

You sure thats not the rod dimensions? IF the bore is indeed only 1.5, you need a different cylinder as that would struggle to split twigs

The ability to run without a cooler really comes down to how efficient the system is, how much mass is there (oil and steel) and how hard are you going to push it. The reality is systems run above 180°F without immediate consequence all the time, but it does age the oil and rubber components faster. The rule is every 10°F cuts the oil life in half. If you only use the splitter a couple times a year your will probably have water issues before it gets oxidized. ISZ
