Punctured oil filter

I use giant vise grip like oil filter wrenches to squeeze/crush filters in that condition

The filter was severely deformed by the branch. Bent pretty bad so I pried it against the frame with a large screwdriver. I moved the electrical conduit below the filter (for access) and used a large channel lock pliers to get it off. Wicked rainy yesterday so I just screwed on the new filter, later today I will fill it with oil and check it real close once I get it to the garage.

Big channel locks, kind of like BIG AZZ Channel locks.......???????????????????????????

I just got my filter off using channel locks. I had to move the conduits to grasp it but it did turn off. I put in 3.5 quarts of oil just to limp it to the garage to check it over good. I think I’ll finish this project and then do fluid changes when it warms up.

Go invest in a good filter wrench. It will come in very handy if you intent to do any servicing on your own and you'll be glad you did. They aren't expensive and a bargain at twice the price. For filters with difficult access I sometimes resort to a strap wrench.
