Mahindra 2565
So this past Saturday I was pushing over some small trees with my 2565 when my son flagged me and told me to shut the tractor down. I had run over a tree and it popped up and punctured the oil filter. I am sure glad he was near & realized what was going on, because I was focused on the task of talking down the small trees and not paying attention to the dash & would likely have damaged the engine before I noticed the oil light. I am planning to build a skid plate to keep this from happening again, but I would also like to have a buzzer of some sort that would alert me to such an issue should it ever happen again. Does anyone know how to wire up such a alarm? I know it could probably be run off of the light on the dash, but how would you do it so that the alarm would not go off during starting the tractor up? I thought about putting it on a switch, but if I forgot to flip the switch on, I would be back to square one. I'm just looking for ideas and thoughts on how to go about doing this without a lot of hassle. I don't know why Mahindra doesn't include this or even a low oil shutdown system, even lawnmowers have that nowadays.

Easiest way to do that would probably be to add a 10-20psi oil pressure switch. Those screw into an oil port on the engine. From there it would need power and ground to the switch and buzzer. low oil pressure and a buzzer sounds- it would self test with the ignition on and engine not running- low oil pressure situation.

Often the dash light (idiot light) is part of the engine computer. If you are asking how to wire into that it’s best not to wire into it.......a misstep could be very expensive.

You could buy a 12v relay module, one that can be used with a low or high trigger, and use the [high or low, depending on how your lamp is turned on ] trigger function to turn on a sonalert [ backup alarm, etc ] when ever the OIL light is lit. So it would sound whenever the key is ON and you have no oil pressure. This relay is turned on by either a ground or voltage, depending on the position of the jumper. This would isolate your new alarm from any electronics in the tractor and the relay would handle the new Sonalert current. You would have to apply a fused 12v source to the relay and ground wire, plus tap into the wire going into your gauge cluster that powers the OIL lamp. I did about the same thing to my 2555, but I tap'd into the wire going to the ' R ' light for a backup alarm. If you are not into electronics, or not motivated to tear into something like this, you might have to take it in somewhere and let them put a circuit in. If your OIL lamp is turned on by an old timey normaly closed switch [ electrically closed, allowing current to flow ] grounding type oil pressure switch, you might not need the relay. Just using the switch to ground one side of a Sonalert.
Good luck, Jerry.... :)

No they don't have them anymore.... I remember one of the main cases when a commercial lawn guy was mowing in the city and went to cross the road to another patch... shut off failed and guy got ran over and killed... no one will ad them anymore from similar incidents and the worry of liability.. just keep a better eye on things if your using it like a dozer lol

You do not want to pay for one of the new engines.. had a guy pushing brush rip off his low pressure switch the other day and drained his engine never payed attention to the light or temp gage and ran her till she locked up

Thanks for the info, it looks just like what I was looking for. What kind of alarm do you recommend?

Back in my younger days when I spent a lot of time and money going fast and turning left I used this type of adjustable indicators for oil and water pressure, a bright light and buzzer would be as good or better then a shutdown.

for oil pressure find your existing switch install a tee and one of these in
or go whole hog and use one of these

You can buy 12v back up alarm beepers on Ebay or Amazon.. etc.... [ sonalert is what I call them ]. They are real loud. [ that is what you want, to get your attention ] I have on one my 2555 for when I am going in reverse [ seldom use it, it's annoying even to me in the cab ], and one on my 5035 to alert me the brake is on. Some idiot operator was driving around with the parking brake on. I yelled at him, but he usually does not learn..... He also had annoyed look on his face there in the mirror. :)

A very loud one like what Vermeer has on their baler monitors to let you know the bale is full or error codes

Same thing happened to me yesterday. Oil filter is pretty bent and I cant get it off yet.

Sometimes you have to break out one of your big old ugly screwdrivers that you have been using for a pry bar for years [ don't have screws anymore with that big of head ] and drive the sucker right thru the filter from side to side. Helps if you put a smaller one thru sometimes. That used to be my filter removal tool of last resort.... before I had a drawer full of different various oil filter removal tools to fall back on...
