Well I got several hours in on my machine today, and though I didn't take many, this post and the next few have the obligatory unsolicited/gratuitous photos. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This one was showing off the new rig to the animals...
Bruce.

Good thing I don't deliver firewood often, here it's getting dark as I'm almost done (spent too much time driving the truck, though it was nice for thawing out).

Had a scare, dark and gettting light snow, I didn't see the log hanging over the hood until after it was on it's way down - heard a crunch as it bounced off the tractor, sounded like it punched a hole through fiberglass /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif turned out it was the ice that made the noise - the hood is plastic! Couldn't find a bemish! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Too close... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Very nice pics. But BRRRR it seems to be very cold where you live /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I like my manual 16*16 much, it shifts very easy and fast.
A hydro is of course easier, but it is a important chose and it is up to you to make this chose.

( I need to invest in two things ASAP: a grease gun and a torque wrench. Without spending as though I had money, which I don't, any recommendations?
)

Bruce, it's great to see you are getting that tractor going and getting some real work done. Do you feel comfortable scooping up firewood with the bucket? Takes some gettin' used to, doesn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Watch out for falling objects...they can do damage to more than your hood if the bucket is up high enough. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I think I'd be conservative about the grease gun and torque wrench. You can use a very cheap bar type torque wrench for most applications if you are not building engines or doing other critical work. Also you might even find one of those cheap, approx. $40 1/2" ratchet/dial indicator torque wrenches (10-150 lb/ft) from Harbor Freight, Northern Tools or some other similar seller of chinese made tools. They will work and last for long time if you don't use them every day. My wife bought me a Craftsman last year to replace one of those cheap one's I'd had for over 10 years before it broke (my fault for using it as a ratchet). When you buy a grease gun, look at the ones just in the mid-range around $25 or less. Most of them don't come with a flexible tip, but you'll need that to get into tight places on your tractor, so that little hose tip is one accessory you might add. The tips on grease guns and how well they fit over the zerks is the most important thing to me. The really cheap guns seem to work only for a short while and then you have trouble getting the tip to seat properly on the zerk so it won't leak. By paying a little more and getting a better tip, I think you'll be happier with your gun. I have one that's a Plews brand I believe and I have to really pull to get the fitting off the zerk. That's my favorite greasegun. I have one with the fixed tube and another with the hose so I can use either when I need it.

I'm sure others will have some good suggestions. I'm certainly not an expert in greasguns or torque wrenches and I'm sure there may be different/better suggestions. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bruce, thanks for the pics....just an awesome machine !!

( - the hood is plastic! )

OH my GOD ....I'm really observant. This whole time I thought my hood was metal. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I knew the black section was plastic from opening hood & feeling material. Just assumed blue top section was metal, (should know better...never assume anything). I guess your really glad for that grill guard you have there but now come to think of it, NH should have made a total front hood guard. Talk about cheaping out on materials. Sure it is lighter & will not rust but boy, sure does not give your engine alot of protection if something heavy were to fall on the hood. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I wonder if JD & Kubota tractors are the same way ??

Bruce, not sure if you have ever loaded / operated a grease gun but are you in for a treat if you have'nt....their just a joy to operate.....NOT !! For a grease gun I have both a lever operated one & pistol grip. Bought the pistol grip as it had a flexible braided metal hose that makes it easier to reach those tight to reach grease nipples. However, the pistol grip is a real pain to operate. Keeps getting air entrained so I lose my prime. Maybe it's just the model I bought (supposed to be professional series from TSC) or maybe it's just the operator. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I like my lever type much better.

I'm sure some of the other guys have a better idea what to buy unfortunately I think they are still recovering from last nights festivities. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks again for the pics Bruce & safe tractoring !!

Hey there jinman.....by golly that's it !! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif My lever type gun is very difficult to pull off the ZERK, while my pistol grip type comes off much easier. So.....not getting a good enough seal around the ZERK. The question now becomes, how do you tell what a good grease gun tip looks like versus a poor one. Just went out to check those two grease guns. Obviously, I would think the pistol grip one has a slightly larger annular opening so does not seal as tightly. However, both tips look identical & openings are same size. So must be internal to tip. Guess the only real way would be to actually try tip out on a ZERK & see how well it seals by pull out force required. If it pulls out too easily, take it back & try another. Anybody else got any better ideas ??

Vic, unless the grease gun tip is damaged or worn out, you can adjust how tight it fits onto the zerks by tightening or loosening the very end of it. If one is hard to get off, just loosen (unscrew) that a bit.
