RAW-

I think you have a nice machine. The thing I think you will like more is where you are moving. I am a North Carolina native, but from the Piedmont. My wife and I moved to Haywood County four years ago and have really enjoyed living in Western NC. My parents now live in Ashe County and between the two we have the Western and Northern NC mountains covered. Unless life circumstances dictate otherwise, I cannot see myself moving from the Western NC mountains by choice. It is truly a pleasure to live here. I wish you the best.

Thanks for the welcome. My wife and I love it up there. The house we're building is intended to be THE house. That's it; no more. This is the house we plan to spend the rest of our lives in.

I was actually just up there this weekend. My wife is going to be out of town for the rest of the week. I'm thinking of getting all the dogs in the car and heading back up there. :D

Unfortunately, this weekend's tractor excitement was short-lived.

Got up there early Friday and unloaded the tractor

Jumped into the brush and saplings behind my shop a little before noon

Was trying to go slowly and be careful, but I had a meeting at 2pm that I knew was quickly approaching. So I got a little ahead of myself.

And then this happened.

Yep. A thumb-thick piece of wood, right through a lug of a "rear" tire.
Quickly loaded the tractor back on the trailer. Thus ended my tractorizing for the weekend. It was really my own fault, but . . . really drove the point home (pardon the pun) that I need to get the tires filled with foam for this job. I knew that, but . . . . my excitement got the best of me.

Anyway, I had planned to make another pass along this new loop to mulch everything up better, but . . .

Here are the sloppy results:

This knoll used to be so dense with briars and locust saplings that it was very unpleasant to walk out to the end. My goal was to get it cleared off to the start of the slope. Ah, well. Maybe next time.

RAW - Sorry to hear about the flat tire - but stuff happens and sounds like next time you will be ready for anything. Looking good so far though. Keep those pics coming - we appreciate seeing your progress

At least it wasn't raining on you. I was up in WNC this weekend too even though they were calling for rain - fortunatley no rain for me either other than a sprinkle Sun. morning.

I didn't get much seat time though as I was working with a chain saw most of the time clearing areas too steep for my tractor. I did get the TN out for awhile and get everything greased up and fluids checked so next time I will be ready to go.

It is also very dry, with burn bans out. I've got some brush piles to burn when it does rain :)

Clearing land sure builds character :D My body is telling my mind my real age this morning :)

Oops.
Renamed the picture files.
Had just planned to edit the post to reflect the changes.

That's not an option anymore.
