That is one cool rig. Any time you want to plan a trip to Florida please stop by ( as long as you bring your tractor anyway):)

Just curious - what does a rig like that sell for? and what part of western NC are you moving to?

Thanks

I've seen the TGF9400 advertised at $45995, I imagine this one goes close to $60k.

I've PMed you guys about pricing info.

My wife and I are moving north of Asheville. If you've heard of Wolf Laurel, we're on the other side of I-26 from there. Our property is right on the TN/NC state line.

The house is going in at 3800 ft. elevation. :D

In the video it looks like it takes down an 8"-10" tree (around 1:20 or so in the link) and it gets run over 2-3x but appears to still be one log with a flat side on it. Is this just because of the angle it was shot? Are the shoes adjusted to it doesn't dig in?

Don't get me wrong- it's still an awesome machine and I can think of 10 acres that it could be helpful!

Yes, you can adjust the skids for different cut height. Also, in order to not bog the head down, you kind of plane off the top surface of thicker trees, making a couple of passes to get it completely mulched. Working with it today around the house, I was experimenting with just how far down I was comfortable cutting. I want to end up with manageable debris, but I want to avoid running the carbide teeth into the dirt. They wear out faster if they run in the soil and rocks.

That's beautiful country. You've certainly got a fine machine to use up there. I guess I'll just have to stay down here in the flatter part of the state and be jealous.

RAW - I take it that this is a PTO driven cutter with the 3pt hitch to control height and hydraulics to move the safety bar? If so what rpms do you need for this to cut as shown in the video. Interesting machines those Carraros I wish we saw more around these parts.

RAW-

I think you have a nice machine. The thing I think you will like more is where you are moving. I am a North Carolina native, but from the Piedmont. My wife and I moved to Haywood County four years ago and have really enjoyed living in Western NC. My parents now live in Ashe County and between the two we have the Western and Northern NC mountains covered. Unless life circumstances dictate otherwise, I cannot see myself moving from the Western NC mountains by choice. It is truly a pleasure to live here. I wish you the best.

Yes, 3PH controls height. Hydraulics controls the mulching door. I also have a hydraulic top-link for slight changes in angle.
This particular cutting head is designed for 540rpm PTO.

Thanks for the welcome. My wife and I love it up there. The house we're building is intended to be THE house. That's it; no more. This is the house we plan to spend the rest of our lives in.

I was actually just up there this weekend. My wife is going to be out of town for the rest of the week. I'm thinking of getting all the dogs in the car and heading back up there. :D

Unfortunately, this weekend's tractor excitement was short-lived.

Got up there early Friday and unloaded the tractor

Jumped into the brush and saplings behind my shop a little before noon

Was trying to go slowly and be careful, but I had a meeting at 2pm that I knew was quickly approaching. So I got a little ahead of myself.

And then this happened.

Yep. A thumb-thick piece of wood, right through a lug of a "rear" tire.
Quickly loaded the tractor back on the trailer. Thus ended my tractorizing for the weekend. It was really my own fault, but . . . really drove the point home (pardon the pun) that I need to get the tires filled with foam for this job. I knew that, but . . . . my excitement got the best of me.

Anyway, I had planned to make another pass along this new loop to mulch everything up better, but . . .

Here are the sloppy results:

This knoll used to be so dense with briars and locust saplings that it was very unpleasant to walk out to the end. My goal was to get it cleared off to the start of the slope. Ah, well. Maybe next time.

RAW - Sorry to hear about the flat tire - but stuff happens and sounds like next time you will be ready for anything. Looking good so far though. Keep those pics coming - we appreciate seeing your progress

At least it wasn't raining on you. I was up in WNC this weekend too even though they were calling for rain - fortunatley no rain for me either other than a sprinkle Sun. morning.

I didn't get much seat time though as I was working with a chain saw most of the time clearing areas too steep for my tractor. I did get the TN out for awhile and get everything greased up and fluids checked so next time I will be ready to go.

It is also very dry, with burn bans out. I've got some brush piles to burn when it does rain :)

Clearing land sure builds character :D My body is telling my mind my real age this morning :)

Oops.
Renamed the picture files.
Had just planned to edit the post to reflect the changes.

That's not an option anymore.
