Buying Advice Purchasing a tractor on a credit card?

I tried to purchase my Tundra with my credit card, but they refused. Did not want to pay cash, so they financed it with 500 on card. I paid off truck in 2 payments. Toyota ended up eating finance charge fees. I really wanted the 2 percent fees. I use my 2 percent capital one cards to purchase generators for my company. When you buy 50 plus units a year that is a lot of money back. I keep zero balance on my cards, so it does not cost me a thing.

There is a lot of poverty in merica. I wonder if that doesn't weight heavily into that thousand dollar matter.

Having said that. Already many decades ago. It was not unusual for a middle class household to not have money to pay the paperboy.

Behaviorists told a long-term study group of school kids they could have a cookie right away, but if they would wait 1/2 hour they could have two cookies.

Decades later, career success and/or financial position of those who waited vs those who didn't fell along lines that wouldn't surprise many of us.

As Knight Kiplinger wrote in his classic column The Invisible Rich, "the biggest barrier to becoming rich is living like you're rich before you are."

25 years ago I bought a used tractor from John Deere and put 12k on the credit card... No one had done it before there... Ended up walking me to parts department as this was the one and only machine

Was that still an imprint machine? Remember being handed those things through the car window, when they actually filled your vehicle, and you had to sign it and put your plate information down?

^^ I still see some of those in some stores, used only during power or communications outages.

Probably another formerly popular item, todays kids could not identify.

I will never forget the time my Dad offered me a tank of gas on his company card, but was too lazy to come along to the gas station. I was so nervous that I had to put his plate number and forge his signature. He gave me heck, that I did such a BAD job!

Some of the new cards are no longer embossed so the demise of the imprint has arrived... I still have one card that is chipless

I assume that credit card was a special corporate account. I think the fee structure is different on those. I'm sure consumer cards don't go that high on limits.

My personal credit card goes close to that limit. It is tied to my brokerage account so the limit is directly related to a percentage of balance.

That tears it. Some small businesses won't take a credit card for less than a $3.00 purchase and now I learn large businesses won't take them for large purchases.

The credit card processor charges the merchant a % of the sale PLUS a "transaction fee" of 20-30 cents.
