I had 40 to put in, and (stupidly) bought only 40. Got 35 of them in, bent the last 5. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Went back to TSC and bought 10, that ought to be enough. 5 went in, 5 bent. Whew!

Yep. pretty soft soil in my area down to about 4 feet. Guess it's one of the benefits of all the rain we get in western washington. I put a few in by hand last week and it only took 4 or 5 hits with my driver to sink them. We do have rocks here, but they usually aren't too big of a problem.

Soil or rock conditions, whichever, certainly makes the difference between fun and work when setting posts. Most folks in Middle Tn. get their T posts from the local Farmers Co-op or TSC. We set the post to a depth that leaves the anchor plate flush with the top of the ground. I believe this is considerably less than 2'.

Same here or 2" or 3" below grade. Lots of rock where I'm at also. Sometimes takes 4 or 5 tries to find a place where the pole wll go deep enough to hold.
