Putting the BH back on the \'23

After using my rotary mower, I need to use the BH. In order to do that, I have to re-attach it. Any suggestions on how to line up the tractor just right on ONE backup to do this?
Ok, maybe more than one realignment for the first time.

One word: "Practice".

You'll get a feel for things after doing it a few times, especially since backing up to the 'hoe is a little harder to do "accurately" than moving forward into the FEL. But only until you do it and begin to visualize things clearly. This applies to any rear-mounted attachment, although the clearance of the 4pt mounting for the 'hoe is a little closer in tolerance than most 3pt attachments.

Re: Putting the BH back on the \'23

I don't have a BX, but when I first started reinstalling my BH, I layed out a 1/4" rope from it in a straight line and then backed over it, similar to a runway stripe. This helped me back up in a straight line. I don't use it anymore, but I probably should. That is the hardest part of putting the BH back on. I don't know what it is about backing a tractor up and aligning it to a BH.... I think when I turn around and lean over, the bubble in my head shifts a bit to the left..... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Putting the BH back on the \'23

The trick to any implement attachment is level ground. When you remove the backhoe, or FEL, or anything else if you can leave it where it's reasonably level and flat it makes a big difference in re-attachment ease.

On the BX 22/23 tractors, the first few times you do the backhoe it's pretty intimidating as you'll swear you're going to crack your fenders re-installing it. It's all a matter of using the controls to both bring the backhoe section FORWARD into the tractor and at the same time ANGLING the unit to the rear. It's not a one motion movement of the controls to hook it up.

As for aligning, that's not too hard...lots of leeway in the bracket to be off an inch this way or that. Of more concern will be getting close to the backhoe as the Hydro lines are relatively short.

Also, don't forget to relocate your clip pins so the brackets will lock in.

Do it a dozen times and it will become second nature.

Re: Putting the BH back on the \'23

Make yourself a dolly (or whatever you call a wheeled thingy to set your hoe on when your remove it from the tractor).

Mine is a tricycle with 2 wheels below the stabilizer pivots, and one below the bucket.

It makes reinstalling the hoe a snap. I recommend dollies for any attachment.

ooops. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif see the dolly discussions below

Ditto on the dolly. I have 6 implements on dollies. Soooo easy. Here's a link to bh dolly thread:

Re: Putting the BH back on the \'23

Jim,
Just to let you know that I had no trouble re-installing the BH back on my BX23. Just backed it right up...once...yeah that's right! Just once! But I left it in nuetral so I could pull it back if needed. I then followed the instructions (with a few miscalculations of the stabilizers and boom movement) and then laid the bottom supports on first and then pivoted the BH up and heard the set pins as they snapped in place. Very cool and easy re-install of the BH. Hats off to Kubota for making it user friendly.
Now, I will get some seat time tomorrow, but I will be with the family (minus one BX) in sunny /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Florida for a week. Can I have the BX as carry on?

Re: Putting the BH back on the \'23

One thing to be aware of -- it is possible to pinch the hydro lines between the BH and tractor when raising the BH to lock it into place, so make sure the lines are out of the way!

Re: Putting the BH back on the \'23

Didn't even check for that...I guess I was so excited that I re-installed the BH with no problems. Will check. Thanks.

Re: Putting the BH back on the \'23

I have never experience the lines getting close to being pinched, but I believe that every BX22/23 should come with a small bottle of touch up paint for the day that you catch the bottom of the fender when reinstalling the backhoe. I am careful, but I have scraped along the bottom edge more times than I care to admit to. To my amazement, I have yet to wrinkle the metal, but it seems that more than once, I have come very close. Usually it is when I am trying to be careful and thinking about which lever to use. If I am in a rush and not thinking about the levers, I always use the correct one instinctively. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
