BobG,

Its the gear oil from the PTO pump. As far as I can tell the hydraulic side is fine. I became alarmed when I heard some strange noise coming from the pump and it took a quart of gear oil!

Looks like it might be leaking from the glass indicator on the side or below. This is my second pump so it might be an indication that something else is wrong. Not sure yet.

Are you saying your pump leaked gear oil as well? I was given one of those "That's never happened before" responses and this is the second time for me.

It's the Itallian pump sold by Bradco.

Yep, my first one blew out the seal on the gear oil (seal where the PTO shaft goes in. Come to find out that the pump they sent was the wrong one anyway. I've got about 3 hours on the 511 and so far so good. Mine is the Italian pump also. I think its happened more than once. .....BobG in VA. PS I changed the hydraulic filter on the 511 (I may have mentioned this to you before), but I lost about a gallon of hyd fluid with the changeover. BobG in VA

That's nothing! I lost 2 gallons!! The air turned blue for a bit. when I was trying to get that other filter on /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Hey, can you tell me what the numbers are on your pump sometime? I think mine says MU21 and 1.3.8 for a ratio. Is that what you have? The next time I have that thing off I'll have to take some pictures of it for reference since you can't see anything on it when it's installed. The only way I knew it was low was to remove the side drain plug and add to the top. I couldn't see the glass when it was installed. I was really suprised when I kept adding fluid and nothing came out the side drain!

I am relieved that I am not the only one going through this. Do you think yours is good to go now? Anything change besides replacing the pump? This will be my 3rd pump when I get it back. They picked up the tractor yesterday so my hydrant project is on hold for a bit...

The pipe was around 19" underground, and my waterline will be 6' down so I have some clearance room here.

And I thought I was going deep at 2' down. Of course around here nothing freezes below 6".

I've got all of mine done except the final connection at the pump house (and a "few" rocks to pick up /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

Anybody want to buy several hundred feet of hose?

2' sure would have been nice, but it sure gets cold here in Iowa! Kind of hard to imagine right now with it still in the upper 80's for September. That's about 10degrees above normal.

Gas prices and shortages made us reconsider our trip to the twin cities over labor day so I was able to make more progress on the hydrants.

My tractor dealer was able to honor my time requirements and get my tractor back with the PTO pump fixed and also fix some minor warranty items, (hazard switch, air clog sensor). The pto pump just needed a new level see through indicator on the side as the one that was in there apparently had its threads stripped at the factory.

Okay, so back to the hydrants. I had to fix a cave in and correct some high points in the trench. Here is some of the remaining trench digging.

And here is the final stretch. I had to make all the corners so I would miss the septic and other obstacles.

Only casualty was the electrical line to the livestock building. I will be fixing that tonight before filling in the last part of the trench.

After I finished the digging I began the install for the hydrants. Here is the north hydrant shortly after it was set.

You can see the pea gravel at the bottom if you look closely.
