I have a tensioner now on the belt setup. That's what I'll use unless I can find a clutch like leonz is talking about.

It's easy to say XXXX is the best way to go. Finding that exact part is the challenge, then seeing what the cost is, is the second.

I could have just bought a commercial version of what I'm using (which is also belt driven), but they cost around $7000.

surplus center web site is the same Hilliard extreme duty clutch you can buy from Hilliard.

Using the single V-belt version or the 40-2 roller chain version that is available from them would work for you.

The rated HP is low and the bore isn't correct. I couldn't find anything else...wish I could b/c I agree chains wouldn't loose torque.

If I'm going to change the pulley on the engine I'd rather convert it to a chain driven setup with a clutch. I'll check out that site though, thanks.

I picked up a similar setup this fall. The guy used a Onan motor and belt drove it. He has passed away so I never was able to ask if it worked, but from the setup it looked like it did, as he had about 1 mile of driveway to clear. We only had a few inches on the first storm but it seemed to work. I will get some pictures of the setup. It was certainly a garage engineered job.

My small blower I am overspinning it by about 40% so 1400RPM. No issues except it will destroy The #40 drive chain if I forget to oil it every couple of times out. It is a 4 foot blower and will throw snow 50'. I have set up a number of hydraulic drive blowers from 3 points and 600-650 rpm is a sweet spot for throwing, when loaded they are in the 550-575 range. The space inbetween my impeller and the wall is about 1", seems excessive. Anyone else have that much spacing?

Will do it when i get home, it doesn't look like much, but the guy seemed to know what he was doing. He used it on the front of a skid steer. To tension the belt the entire motor is on a pivot and when you engage the lever, the linkage goes over center and that's what holds it. I'm a big fan of garage engineered contraptions, and am proud to say i own this, even if i didn't put it together.
