Question about a grapple

   / Question about a grapple #61
You 2 at it again? I really would like to hear some more about the nuptials planed?

Deerlope Not to worry about when the Grapple project will be done. I happen to know that Mike has just about everything he needs to get started. And if you know Mike nothing will stand in his way to get it done. I have heard rumors that if the wind is blowing just right you may be able to hear welding and grinding noises coming from his shop in the wee hours of the morning. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So I imagine in a week or so you should see the grapple in all its glory /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You got that right John, I was at it until 11:30 last night. I'm currently shaping the end plates that will attach the bucket to the grapple.

Once finished my plan is to be able to completely remove the grapple from the bucket so that it does not interfere with snow removal duties.

Gotta run, I'm headed back out to the barn. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

First end plate finished and drilled. I'll just flip this one over trace the pattern out on the steel and cut the second plate out for the other side of the bucket.

You're a good and dedicated poster! Only shorty after saying this, you were back posting pics. I wish everyone, including myself, could be so consistent!
TBN is acting strange this morning. After each time I looked at your pics and went back to the post, it would put me back to your first thread! Very weird. John

Mark actually it's not mine or it would be dirty. I have a good neighbor that lets me use it whenever a project comes up. I asked him if he had a new metal cutting blade that I might purchase from him and when I went to pick up the saw he handed me the saw and an unopened box of 5 new metal blades.

I gotta keep that guy in my good graces. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Just wish he would buy a plasma torch. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lets have an auction, why take a chance on that tooth fairy. I'll start the biding at 3 bucks. What do you say Junk? The owner can have 1 reserve. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Got up bright and early this morning and headed out the the barn at 4:30 AM. I know, need to get a life right?

Anyway this picture shows a cardboard template that we used on the end of the bucket to assure that the end plates on both sides of the bucket were spaced the same.

We cut three 2 X 4 X 1/2 steel plates that will eventually be welded to the backside of the grapple mount tube just behind each lift arm. Once a 1/2 bolt is passed through each they will securely tie the bucket to the grapple and prevent any flex from front to back.

You can also see the welders magnet now positioning the first pivot mount on the main mount tube.

Second pivot point being aligned with the use of a 1 inch solid steel rod. There will be a total of 6 mounts and since alignment is critical the steel rod will make the job much easier and eliminate binding as a result of any misalignment.

Once the two furthest pivots are aligned the rest are much easier. The two furthest lift arms each use a set of two pivots with a lift arm sandwiched between them. Once each set is slid on the solid rod they can be tacked to the support tube.

Heheheh. Glad to hear I'm not the only sick puppy around these parts that does this. My wife thinks I'm nuts (she might be right .....)

It's lookin' real good Mike.

Seeing the rest of shed in the background of these shots gives some hope - that really clean workbench had us very worried for awhile /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
