Question about hydraulics performance on different excavators.

Not messing up the landscaping and servicing the wife’s flowerbeds is a huge incentive for the TLBs. Maintaining the farm the smaller is sometimes the better. MiniX sure have replaced TLBs in the utilities market. I’ll put more stock in guys like you with hands on experience over what’s on paper.

so I’ve decided to go with my original plan to just upgrade to the u48. Mainly to get new cab, performance wise it averages about 400lb more lifting power, 2 more pumps, 7gpm more flow… but we have decides here that that doesn’t get me anything. Another great thing is the tracks are 1’ longer and stance is 1’ wider. This machine will also have 2 auxiliary lines to stick. I want the 057 but its just not in my current hauling capabilities. To do it legally/safely I would have to get an f250 with the 10k gvwr rating and the high capacity trailer tow option, then get a 16k trailer. I just got my f350…no way I’m going down that path again for few years.

financially..I paid $59k+ for the kx040 a year and 3 months ago. I will get $55k trade in BUT because I am trading it in I will save $3500 in state sales tax because in our state you only pay tax on difference. To get same deal by selling outright I would have to sell it for $58500 and deal with collecting the money and making sure its good. New machine is $70500. Cab, angle blade, quick attach 24” bucket, and thumb, plus the extra auxiliary line besides the thumb line. So my machine and $16400ish. I always like to know what people pay. Might have done better in a better non Brandon economy, but it is what it is. This was a fun thread.

Have you looked any at a Deere 50? I haven’t compered the specs but I think you would gain performance on the u48 at about the same weight point. Will the 40 and the 48 buckets interchange?

I have looked at deeres. I dislike the cab, didn’t run it. I would gain reach on the 40 and 48 and performance over 40 with Takeuchi but I talked to some footer guys I work around and the hvac intake is at your feet under the seat. Said it sucks dirt in and it’s a $4k repair to have dealer take out and clean or replace because the unit is buried. They actually had external house filters taped up to help keep the dirts out.
Here’s kubotas new hvac design. Notice how it sucks from outside, with a circulate that only adds about 50% of the airflow. The filter is good and heavy, nothing like what’s on your 40. My current 40 uses a svl filter.

I’m quite good with the kubota. It’s a little more than a lateral move and it’s more expensive but its just money. I’m partial to certain brands. I’ve been driving ford diesels exclusively since ‘97. Im on my 10th superduty. I stay with what I know. I’ve had a bunch of kubotas, still do.

Is this new system on 2020 KX-040 cab machines?

You’re not likely to see a Deere skid loader on my trailer but a Deere mini is a good piece. I’m probably going to run my Kubota 40 until it’s junk with the price things are now. I did see an older pre emission farmer owed Deere 50 that I considered buying. I didn’t want to deal with trying to get more buckets more than anything else.

I’m not a fan of Deere anymore. Just the epitome of overpriced America union waste nowadays. Cats the same way. They only play to large companies, they don’t even try to be competitive. All my neighbors are Deere and constantly hit with multi thousand dollar repairs with ag equipment. All though one of my favorite pieces of equipment is my 556 baler. The Japanese have hit a happy medium in price and quality, and kubota is fiercely taking a bite out of ag.
As far as prices, buying cash is expensive. But having something in good condition to trade in takes the bite out of it. My 40 is almost bringing what I paid for it. I traded my 2019 f350 lariat ultimate with a 155k miles on it and got $50k trade in on my 2022 king ranch. Used prices are equally insane.
As far as buckets I’ll have 2 to get rid of. The 48 uses the 57 buckets.

Neither machine exists within 500 mile radius. They are all floating in the gulf. Dealers are flat out of all inventory and machines like mine can bring close to what it cost a year ago. So demoing is an impossibility. Any machine that shows up will be gone in 24 hours. Some dealers are out up to 8 months on estimated presales.

my current machine has angle blade/thumb so ight at about 10200. I have 14900 trailer for now, it’s a diamond c dec deck over bumper pull. I carry a extra bucket(60” I fabbed for gravel), derate to 14500 to go with my trucks 11500gvwr. I scaled the other day and my trailer axles were 13300. Total weight 24140. These machines will be a 1500# increase. I’m ok with that I just can’t pull a u55 or kx057 legally(don’t get me started). I’m staying under the 26k. I am investigating lighter trailers but it seems there is only a 600lb savings. I have a 2022 f350 11500 gvwr with a 2150 tongue rating. I get a new truck every few years(50k miles/year) and might look into the f250/ with max trailer tow package with 10k gvwr rating to move extra gvwr to trailer, currently my truck sits at 8840 with all my stuff in it. Its a crew cab long bed.

my original goal was just to get into the -5 cab. It’s a lot better in a few ways. Much better insulated and no see thru gaps in the floor. I spent a little time on a kx057-5 and liked the cab. Performance was of course great.
Then I stumbled on the Takeuchi and it’s weight vs performance. I went the other day and ran a tb260 and a tb240. Not bad, cab is no where near as nice as kubota, let alone the new -5 cab. More room, less refinement. But got to thinking about the huge flow differences. I’ve ran a yanmar and it tracks and booms just fine, vio50.
Looking at specs and type of hydraulic set ups got me curious How they increase flow with same hp and use single pumps vs multi pumps. But in the end the relief decides the strength, and flow decides ability to use that strength in multiple places at once. Would that be accurate?

so just a little background on this journey. Also, ”bigger” excavator may not be a 100%, more like the most functional with given hp and weight restrictions. I’m splitting hairs but thats fine. Its my hobby to change.
I’m in this same position, good post!
