Get the serial number and code and you can tell the year. A certain code is known for having more frequent problems.
According to Kaye Sellon 1977 had the highest failure rate.

OK, Shield Arc, those are indeed fine looking machines. But I don't believe for a moment that they looked like that when you bought them. Definitely not the $200 machine.

How about some "BEFORE" photos.

Oh no that's the way they came!:D
The sad part, when you paint these things from head to toe they eat up the better part of 3-quarts. So you might as well buy a gallon. With hardener, reducer, and paint around here you're looking at $150.00 a gallon. Then all the work to sand them down and paint.:(

You did a fantastic job of restoration.

The "Before" photos show us what to look for and what they could morph into with a little elbow grease and a pocket full of money

I'm curious if Lincoln is going to come out with something to compete against the new Miller Trailblazers with EFI and Excel power. The Excel power only lets the machine rev up if it needs to. With a 5/32" 7018 the machine will rev up when you strike an arc and then idle down a couple seconds later, kind of like hot start. Also power tools will run at idle. One guy was getting 19 hours to a tank of gas! There also a lot quieter.

Im not a fan of EFI on a welding machine even though they save fuel. With the ethanol fuels of today and all the other additives and junk I would rather take apart a carburater and clean it out if need be rather than change clogged injectors and all that business. Just me tho.

I read somewhere recently that some series of the octagon could possibly have copper in them rather than the aluminum...Saw a guy who got one and they were discussing it on a forum somewhere. So...I guess you need to check it out. Seems like it was a 72 or something...that came both ways for a while.

Mark mid point of 1973 was the transition from 100% copper round barrels to the octagon barrels. Just like your machine has a black face plate, but it's really a Red Face machine. Lincoln must have run out of red paint!
