According to Kaye Sellon 1977 had the highest failure rate.Get the serial number and code and you can tell the year. A certain code is known for having more frequent problems.
OK, Shield Arc, those are indeed fine looking machines. But I don't believe for a moment that they looked like that when you bought them. Definitely not the $200 machine.

The sad part, when you paint these things from head to toe they eat up the better part of 3-quarts. So you might as well buy a gallon. With hardener, reducer, and paint around here you're looking at $150.00 a gallon. Then all the work to sand them down and paint.
