I have seen the real estate ads. I don't find it to be annoying. The ones that bug me, are the ones that tend to load the video, even if you don't click on them. When you are placing the cursor on something near the top of the page, such as to click on "new posts", the video drops down and begins playing. Really annoying for this of us with very slow internet speeds, due to such rural living (no dsl or cable option). I think motion (jumping up and down or flashing) and video ads should not be allowed on the sites, as a consideration to ALL who visit it. I don't have an issue with just ads. I understand they help pay the bills, but the annoying ones shold be screened first, not just placed out to be annoying. :2cents:

could one of you very bright people please spend a minute and remind the rest of us how to block doubleclick specifically; do we type it in manually? I use Firefox btw. IE locks up/freezes up so often that I gave up on it.

I've said this before but flash a national Verizon ad on TBN or Citibank or... and I'm paying no attention to it. It's just junk
advertising that we are bombarded with everywhere we go.
Look for AdBlock Plus. Its a Firefox/Chrome addon.

Yes, I am still on Satellite and will be for a couple of years, so I have to watch my download limit. I rarely watch videos and don't like large ad's hogging up my download time.

As a rule advertisements are out of control. We don't have TV anymore, but when we did I would see the same company running a 30 second ad 6 times in one sitting....like Geico. I wish I knew what their annual advertising budget is because I am quite sure everyone except a Monk knows who they are & if they stopped advertising they could drop their rates by 30%. This would make them the cheapest insurance company in North America.

I got rid of TV completely. I don't have to pay for 100 channels and still find nothing worth watching on anyway. The ads were always louder than the program, and annoyin too.

I have a 4G connect card from my wireless carrier. It is the best connection available where I am, but even then, I don't get 4G speeds. May never get those speeds out here, so video stuff needs to be important, and pertinent, for me to think it worth the effort.

Adblockplus and NoScripts addons for Firefox are your friends

When we moved from our old house (where we got cable at no charge) to our new place, we got a subscription to Netflix Streaming and have just used that. $8/month for pretty much any movie or prior season show we want to watch and no ads. If we wanted to watch more new shows, we would drop another $8/month on a Hulu Plus subscription...

Chrome with AdBlock Plus works for me.
I have no problem with on-topic adds on the margins of a forum page. Pop ups and pop unders annoy me. Ads that play video and audio automatically should be illegal. I have no idea what ads y'all are seeing here, and glad of it.

Don't know how bright I am, but blocking such things is fairly easy. I have a huge HOSTS file that tells my computer to look at 127.0.0.1 (itself) anytime an address such as doubleclick is requested.

Shown below is an image of a hosts file being used for ad blocking.
hosts.PNG

Any ads from any sites listed in HOSTS will simply display as an empty spot in the page. The requests never go out to the ad sites and no extra software is needed.

There are many articles on the net discussing using HOSTS to block ads and other malicious sites. If you need further assistance PM me or something and I can point you in the right direction so we're not hijacking OP's thread.

Another instance is adds on pandora radio because they are throwing darts in the dark as far as advertising. It is terrible which is maybe the reason people pay for it lol.

I listen to Spotify because they don't 'timeout' like Pandora does. You can also save albums as playlists. I have a few hundred saved. The ads are a small price to pay for being able to listen to so much music. Although I will admit the Audible.com ad about the lady taking pictures of cats with her phone is pretty dumb. But Spotify loads when I power up my work laptop. As soon as I clock in I start listening, and continue until I clock out. {unless there is a race or a good ballgame on}

The CCRE ad was up when I started this post, but now it is a Google ad. I was wondering about the cost of a banner ad compared to the side ad. With the banner ad you only see it when you go to a new page, or scroll up to get to 'Home'. With the side ads you see them for a few posts. Just wondering which cost more.

While I agree with you on the ads, the fix in this case (with the useless back button) is for the IE developers to get their act together and learn how to code a real browser. It ONLY happens in IE (not FF, Chrome, etc), therefor its an IE bug.

IE is THE browser.. not that I use it.
