question on farm exemp post

Now this is funny...
I've followed this thread until I took a break. TXDon had the last post at 4:34 when I stopped.

I come back and couldn't believe my eyes, nor the fact that it was Bird of all people that started the slippery slope. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Can't do it as well as DocHeb would, but take a look back. It went to schools, sports, musicians, professional athletes, financials of such people...

Hey, at least you're not talking politics /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am curious on how states classify property as a "farm".
Is it acreage?
Is it land use?
Is it animal related?

I am doing research on information in Virginia, commonwealth of, trying to see what is best for my property.

I noticed that two horses, recreational purposes, does not make a farm.

I also noticed that land, small as five acres is classified as a farm.

I also noted that a mix of animals per acres, you can get classified as a farm.

Now I understand why the farmers, quit farming. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anyway, what is it like in other states? What is a "farm"?

It is land use here in New York. You have to show that your land is being farmed or grazed to be considered a farm. Of course there is a lot more into it depending on what NY classifies as a farm but I would imagine most states come down to having to show the land being farmed in some manner.

Depending on what type of land you have in NY it is sometimes cheaper to not have it listed as farm land. We tore out a lot of grape vineyards on our land that were overgrown, it dropped our taxes a lot as open fields are cheaper to own then vineyards.

I put a sizable chunk of my land into Tree Growth, which means that it gets taxed on the value of the timber instead of the value of the land. The state sets the timber value per acre annually based on the mix and price of harvested timber. But, the 1.5 acres of Christmas trees that I have planted have to count as farm crops, not trees. Go figure. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

"And to most musicians $30 million is chump change when they're on top."

Sorry, Doc, you're talking about entertainers, not musicians. Among the people making that kind of money, I haven't seen a real musician, yet, unless Placido Domingo or Yo Yo Ma makes that much, and I don't think they do.

I have a radical suggestion that just may get me lynched. All professional sports teams should be taxed with the money to go to the colleges and high schools. Why should the public be taxed to operate farm clubs for the professional sports teams. Each profressional athlete should be required to rebate prorata to his college and school district from his fabulous salary. Obviously I have no use for professional sports like football, basketball, and hockey.

End rant

The way I read Soundguy's comment was that a given school was likely to be able to produce more professional musicians than professional athletes, if the funding were proportionally assigned. I rather doubt he intended to imply that professional athletes did not have real jobs. Both musicians and athletes are entertainers, at least if they want to make money. Since there now seem to be professional tiddly wink players, I'm not sure Sounguys implication that jobs for musicians out number those for athletes, however.

Now, if you wanted to argue the relative merits for improved funding for science, math and engineering education as opposed to that for athletics, we could no doubt really close this discussion down in a hurry.

May I say this about that....... nah..... it is too political and I don't want to be the last to post to this thread. Ah.... why not..... Close the public schools and let the parents fend for themselves how the kids are going to be educated. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif To be continued.....

should we start takin bets on how long it is before this thread is closed, seems to me it has even less to do with tractors and farms than the other one did, yet it seems that they are allowing it to continue, i suppose they know that if they close it we will simply start another one called "questions on questions on farm exempt post" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif or maybe we should take this over to one of the other forums where we can actualy discuss political things that affect country living
