Lots of schools are also shutting down the arts. in some areas.. the only reason they have band.. is for the football teams.. which never seem to get budget cuts... Go figure.

It is more likely that that school would turn out a musician... with a real job.. than a pro athelete. I'm not saying NO pro atheletes.. I'm just saying for the money they spend.. seems like they are turning out more of other professions other than athletes.. even though the athletic budget is usually the biggest in the school... This is particularly relevant as my wife is a music teacher, and musician.

My father used to teach at a local middle school, and was the athletic director. There were state requirements for football equipment that stated it had to be replaced each three years, whether it had been used or not. With all the other expenses, he noted that for the amount of the football budget, he could run three intramural sports each season (fall, winter, spring). Guess which (football vs intramural) got cut in the end.

I did say I was sorry for my post and I did not mean anything other than exactly the way I feel. If it was your toes I stepped on, I apologize.

Being a professional athlete isn't a real job but being a professional musician is a real job? Personally I wouldn't say one or the other is any better or any worse. Being gifted as an athlete or being gifted as a musician both have value.

The only difference is that I have never heard of a musician getting a 30 million dollar contract to play for 4 years. I also never heard of a musician going into the stands and beating on people because a patron threw something on the stage or didn't like the music and booed them. Have you???? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Robert, that's pretty funny! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't follow rock muscians anymore than Junkman does, but I think you are correct...

Yes you hear about them all the time. If you're going to take all the musicians together like you are lumping athletes together then yes I could name a list a mile long of drug addicts, murderers, thieves, rapists, and whatever else you want to say. And to most musicians $30 million is chump change when they're on top. Sorry but your argument doesn't hold much weight there.

BTW it's not just rock musicians either.
