As I've watched several posts stray off subject, I wondered how bored we all really are.

Can't stop posting but don't have anything going on.

Many of us are "rained out", others are "snowed in".

What else are we to do?

"never heard of a musician going into the stands and beating on people because a patron threw something on the stage or didn't like the music and booed them. Have you????"
Well, yes! Hank Williams, legendary Country and Western singer who died of alcohol poisoning, was known to carry brass knuckles in his back pocket in case he needed to "educate" a fan.
However I do agree with you and the point you were trying to make. Sports in school are for the kids with ability, not those without. The sports program has lost sight of it's original goals, to provide exercise for kids who don't at home and to give the kids a little fun to break the monotony of class work. It has been found that the arts stimulate thinking and music seems to enhance math abilities.

Is that a fact? Hmm I bet they would disagree with you. I've seen some awesome fiddle players in country music. But I suppose a fiddle player isn't a musician. I've seen some awesome rock guitarists that would make the fingers of any guitarist quiver with envy. I've seen drummers in rock, country, soul, you name it that could carry a beat like no tomorrow. Then let's talk about the blues players. Saxaphone players that none could rival. I'd put Billy Joel or Elton John up against most piano players. Get real Okie they are musicians. I suppose you're going to say that Beethoven, Bach, you name it aren't musicains? Come on let's at least call a spade a spade.

In ND to be classified as a farm for zoning you have to have at least 40 acres, use it for farming and half your income come from farming.

You could have a thirty acre parcel zoned as farm land, have a house, have a windstorm come up and take the roof off and you could not replace the roof becasue the land was not properly zoned. You would first have to have it rezoned for rural residential.

How many of the examples you gave are so far over the $30 million range that they think it's chump change? Elton John, maybe, over his entire lifetime. That's not "most musicians". The majority of musicians are teachers like SoundGuy's wife and my daughter. The next largest number are in orchestras and make a living wage. That's "most musicians".

( Among the people making that kind of money, I haven't seen a real musician, )

Paul McCartney is not a musician? Paul McCartney can play about every instrument in the book and play it well,he is an excellent guitar player, one of the Worlds top bass players,he plays the piano very well and is not a bad drummer either. Chet Atkins was not a musician ? What about Eric Clapton ?
George Harrison was an excellent guitar player.
I am not to familiar with the younger entertainers abilities, although I do not think the talent is like it was 30 to 40 years ago,at least what I hear, but then again I do not listen to much of the music today.

Ok how many athletes is it chump change? Not many. My daughters made $48,000 last year in rodeo and running barrels. They're considered professional athletes. You mean to tell me you're going to attach that kind of stigma to a 7 and 9 year old?

I think it's sad to always see these kinds of conversations about athletes. The majority of athletes, professional and amateur are just as good and hard working as musicians. I have the pleasure of working with some of the best athletes in the college and professional industry. 99% of them are upstanding, honest, moral, and downright good people. The sports industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and is a significant contributor to the economic and tax structure in this country. There are hundreds of thousands of jobs and occupations created from the sports industry. I would venture to say if you counted all the jobs and GNP contribution that sports related economics would outnumber music by a significant margin. Not sure about that and if anyone knows for sure please correct me. Some of the greatest stories and national pride have been related to sporting events.

Music certainly is equally important. Yes music has many positive effects and contributions to health and welfare of a person. But equally important is exercise and physical fitness to an individual. I just find it sad that the issue is even brought up. You certainly don't see the issue being brought up that professional musicians are criminal overpaid idiots. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Bizarre on your tree stuff.

I am still thinking about land use. But the tax man cometh one day if I do this, something about roll-back.

Any states have roll-back land use taxing?

The Tax man cometh to my place twice last year. I have heard that neighbors will report neighbors who are not using the land for ag purposes. I passed. With the internet anyone can see the exemptions. It is all open records. In Texas if you change your land use to non-exempt, and don't tell, they can go back five years and reassess your land and you will owe five years worth of back taxes at the higher rate- ouch! Don't PO the tax man!

Is this what you meant about roll-back taxes riptide, or was it the other way - they owe you because you did not claim an exemption- LOL.

Hey look we went full circle. We are back on topic.
The thread lives. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
