Question on PT180\'s

Has anyone bought or tried one of these? How would you rate it. I'm looking for one to use more as a loader to move mulch and topsoil and not as a mower. Would also use aerator and use as a leaf plow in fall.

Re: Question on PT180\'s

there should not be any problem, we do all these tasks with a 425. the only thing will be you have to take a little smaller bits.

Good luck

Re: Question on PT180\'s

My old PT-1418 is similar to their current PT-180 (although I believe my old one is somewhat heavier). I'd have to say the worst things about mine are the Briggs & Stratton engine and the aged hydraulic parts. Now that said, it IS still running after 13 years. Check out my web-page (URL in my signature below). I have used mine mainly for loader work...I moved about 10-tons of sand, 10 tons of gravel, 3 pallets of brick pavers, and 3 pallets of retaining wall blocks when I first picked it up. IMHO, you can't beat one of these for loader work...especially given the price.

Anyway you slice it, an inexpensive tractor (or in my case, an old tractor) is better than no tractor... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Question on PT180\'s

Dave, i was looking at the pics of 1418 on your web site and, it could just be my eyes, it looks like you have alot of clearance between the tires and tractor frame. Did you reverse your wheels? And if you did, have you had any problems with the wheel motors? Thanks.

Re: Question on PT180\'s

Nope, I haven't reversed the wheels (although it's possible a previous owner did...never really thought about it). And yes, I've had some problems with wheel motors. The rear left wheel motor has been replaced as least 3 times. The original wheel motors were Ross (still on the front and on rear right), but the left wheel motor was a Parker (obviously replacing the older Ross version of the same wheel motor). I put a new one on the rear left last year. There's a little bit of grease on the case of the rear right, so I'll probably end up replacing it as well sometime within the next year or so. The front wheel motors are perfectly dry though...not a drop of oil leakage that I can see. These Parker (Ross) wheel motors are about $275 each (the best price I found was from Gregory Pool equipment here in Raleigh).

I discovered last year that the rear wheels are filled with anti-freeze. Might just be a coincidence that one rear has been replaced and the other rear might need it soon, while the unfilled fronts are perfectly dry...but then, maybe it's not a coincidence... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Question on PT180\'s

Wonder if those filled tires are causing your wheel motor problems?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Reversed wheels do cause wheel bearing problems on some cars and SUVs!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif However, conventional tractors are designed to use reversed wheels as an option.

Review thread "Filled Tires"!

What do you think?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

PS: Glad to see someone else in the Triangle has a Power Trac! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Question on PT180\'s

I have a 180, 425, 1430, 1850, 2445 with lots of attachments. The 180 is a great little machine and would do your jobs. My favorite is the 1430 with lots of power and great flexability. The PT422 is also a good little machine.
