Thanks it was like losing a friend, well maybe a not so great friend. It had the typical IH brake problems for that era and I live where you need the brakes a lot so it had to go.

It had the typical IH brake problems for that era and I live where you need the brakes a lot so it had to go.

When we first got married, my wife had a IH424 with no brakes whatsoever. A couple of times she had to run it into a tree to keep from running into a gully. I was scared to death that she was going to have a horrible accident. So, I took both brake assemblies apart and managed to combine enough parts to get one side working. The other side also had an oil leak that caused problems, so one side was all I could really do without fabricating parts and fixing a seal.

My wife was like a kid with a new toy. She suddenly had brakes and could drive the tractor, but we really wanted to sell it anyhow. The first fellow who came to look at it was impressed that there were any brakes on the tractor and paid her what she was asking. We were happy to see it go.

Well, I like the little Ford although I have never laid eyes upon it. but I have had other Fords before. Allis Chalmers are a favorite, just because they are not common in eastern Oklahoma where I am from originally. IH are okay also. I intend upon buying a midsize backhoe 40-50 HP...maybe a Kubota or a John Deere....I like tractors and they all seem to have personalities like most people if you become familiar with them long enough. I like 100+ HP tractors also...I think it takes about 3 to cover the spectrum properly.
