couldn't you just make the presentation, record it on a cd and play it on a large tv with a dvd player? recordable cd's or dvd's are cheap.

Heehaw this idea is so simple I haden't even thought of it. I can purchase a 26" TV using this method instead of a more expensive dedicated monitor of the same size. The TV can be connected to the DVD player and constantly show web pages via Power-point for items that we offer. This was an idea that my wife came up with to draw folks into our new store. Connecting the monitor to a el-cheapo 40 dollar DVD player is most likely the most sensible thing to do here.

The independent laptop can then be used to surf our web site for customers seeking a particular item and when there's a lul in the store activity the wife can handle her email via the wireless connectivity within the building. Doing it this way won't require any special hardware and the laptop will be less prone to crashes.

Can a DVD be set up to run in an "endless loop" fashion so that you won't have to watch for the end of the presentation and restart the DVD? For that matter, can a PowerPoint presentation on a computer do this? I would imagine on the computer that it would be doable. But on a DVD? Just asking.

The farthest I've ever extended a monitor from the computer has been a 10' extension for a total of 15'. Not saying it won't work, but you might have to look into a repeater of some type to get to almost 40'.

We have a desktop runig a projector 100 ft from the computer and a laptop to the same projector from 40 ft with no troubles.

A lot of churches are going to this setup. Ours has all the songs for the days service, announcements, preachers topic for the day, etc. all run from a laptop from back of auditorium. I'm sure someone in charge of the worship service could show you how it works. Good luck.

Mike,
I do a lot of powerpoint, both for work and for the church. The distance is not an unsolvable problem, but you do need a video amplifier. The bigger problem is your desire to run the slideshow and do other things as well. We have found that when a slideshow is running, as soon as you click on another window, the slideshow pauses. You can click back to the presentation and re-start it, but it will not continue when you are in email or web browsing (even if the slideshow is on the "secondary" monitor)

The dvd idea is by far the best one. (in my opinion)

I just had the sad experience of attending a wake for a friend and they had a dvd player connected up to a tv showing past photos of him in a continuous non-stop repeating mode.

The answer is: Yes. There's a flag you set at the end of a track to tell the player what to do .... one of the options is to repeat itself. Without any user intervention it will continue to do that forever ...... or at least until the power goes off. :D

Well, although I've never had occassion to use a continuously playing DVD, its nice to know that, should the need arise, it can be done. Thanks, TBN folks. I learn something new here everytime I log on.

After reading these advice given here I dug out the manual for our existing DVD player and put a movie into a loop. Sure enough at the end of Wild, Wild West, Will Smith did his thing all over again with no further intervention. This will suit our needs quite nicely.

Now all I need to figure out is how to put a presentation on a CD-R
