Here is an idea for bracing the pole to the SSQA plate:

Thanks! The re-inforcement is a great idea... I will have my welder do that to the plate.

Thanks for the pictures!

Super nice boom crane there! How much does that boom crane weigh by itself?

Basically, I'm taking a lightweight man-basket (about 250 lbs) and wanting to put it on the end of a 15' 4x4 boom (about 260 lbs)... attached to the quick attach plate much like the boom in your picture. I'm considering about a 15' boom length which would give me about a 23' deck height when the FEL is lifted to maximum in the vertical position.

It would primarily be used in the vertical position but it would be great if it could be used in the angled position as well. (Not sure if this is too much stress on the connection to use it in an angled position).

Thanks again.

I should also note that my tractor is a 58hp and the FEL is rated at lifting 3000 lbs. (I know that skid steers have a bigger hydraulic pump than my tractor... maybe skid steers can lift more?).

Thanks again.

I have thought about doing the same thing. The end is a just like a square trailer receiver, just much bigger and I could "plug in" a basket that had the proper swivel movement(s). Now I'm not a member of the "safety police" at all, and generally believe that If you're careful and take precautions you can highly minimize risk's. This application does have me worried, especially out at 15' or more away from the tractor.
This worry is from my experience using a 40' JLG manlift and how the movement(s) on the ground are many times greater at extension and you'll need an operator that is trustworthy and real good to say the least :D.

edit; unless your hired illegal is in the basket and you're driving:laughing:

Man, it could be a heck of a ride out there 15 feet as fast as loader controls move.. I would not want to be in it.

Me neither. Bad enough standing in a bucket or on a pallet and being moved.

Thanks for the ideas!

Safety definitely is my first priority! (I do all my own stunts! I've got no helpers.).

There would never be anyone in the basket when moving it. The tractor would be moved into position & the basket positioned by me. Then the ladder would be setup to get into the basket (the ladder is ground staked at the bottom and attached to a bracket up on the basket). Once up the ladder, the harness is snapped onto the basket and I get in the basket. (There is an emergency rope to get down from the basket in the event of the ladder disappearing). The work is done in the basket with a harness on and then I descend the ladder and the ladder is removed and the tractor moved into the next position, etc.

I actually do a lot of work currently within the tractor bucket using these methods... I have a fence mounted on the top edge of the bucket which I harness to. But the tractor bucket only gives me a lift of 8' which only gives me a max working level of about 12-14'. And in some areas, the tractor & bucket can't get in there... (but a basket on a boom could). And because it's a bucket, it's not ideal for standing in and working from (especially in wet weather). That's why I'm looking into better setups to accomplish this.

When transporting & setting up the basket, I will be moving very, very slow. This is partly why I'm concerned about the forces on the connection during transport & raising.

Thanks again.
