Quick attach is offering a end of the year sale and I was wondering if there were any owners of either their rear push or front pull snowblowers. I do not know a lot about their equipment so any one that has some of their attachments some info would be great.

I looked at a quick attach setup for my 3-point on my Kubota M6040. It would have been slick but almost every one of my implements would have required mods of one type or other to work on the quick attach.

Since I'm retired I figured I didn't need to be THAT quick............

EA no longer has any PTO driven snow blowers.
They state that "the manual model is out of stock indefinitely".

You might as well look at the MK Martin Meteor 1048 single stage rear mount snow throwers and call Cummings and Bricker in Batavia, New York @ 1-585-343-5411 to find the nearest MK Martin Meteor Dealer near Kirtland, Ohio.

A rear mount single stage snow thrower is simpler to own and operate and has no shear pins.

My MK Martin single stage pto blower has 2 shear pins (bolts). One on the drive shaft that came with the blower, that protects the gear box in case something jams the fan and one on the auger input shaft, in case something jams the auger. I know they work because I have broken quite a few since getting this thing about 9 years ago. The first year I did some serious damage to the poor thing when I found some large rocks buried in the snow piles that were created from plowing. I have since learned to go over the driveway before the first snow fall and clear it of any rocks that may cause grief for the blower. Even with this procedure I still manage to find the odd rock that pops up after some freeze / thaw cycles. But I haven't had any serious jams since starting this process. If you get one make sure to use class 2 bolts for shear pins not class 5. The dealer I bought it from didn't have any class 2 bolts so I use carriage bolts, which are class 2.

By the way I am in the middle of converting the old girl to a front mount hydraulic blower. I just can't take another season of looking over my shoulder while a back up for hours at a time.

Good Morning coldsteeva and CobyRupert,

MK Martin now sells the Riest Snow throwers under their brand name of MK Martin Meteor.

With both the pull type and push type single stage snow throwers these MK Martin single stage snow blowers
which are three point hitch models the heavy single roller chain is what breaks.

To access the chain drive system there is an access door on the right side of the snow thrower on the left side of the snow thrower as you are facing the snow blower rotor.

The access door is hinged on one side and a single pin holds the door shut. the single roller chain has a rubber torsion arm with a sprocket on it that maintains the tension on the roller chain and the roller chain breaks in the event of an object jamming the snow blower rotor protecting the sprockets and cross shaft.

These snow blowers use the right angle gearbox to the cross shaft to the drive sprocket and then the roller chain loop connects to the driven sprocket that spins the snow blower rotor at 700 RPM or greater as needed by the user.

The 13 inch snow thrower rotor on the 1048 models and theother larger units use a solid cross shaft and ribbon auger that feeds the snow and ice crap to the center of the of the snow thrower. In the center of the snow blower rotor there are 4 fully welded paddles welded to the solid auger at 90 degree separations to throw the snow and ice crap up through the opening into the chute and spout and sent flying at 700 RPM or greater with the paddles spinning at 2,800 times per minute.

The MK Martin Meteor single stage snow blowers speed can be increased by exchanging sprockets to speed up the snow thrower or slow the rotation speed down if desired(not a good idea to slow them down as they will throw the snow and crap very very far in half cuts with them operating at 700+ RPM.

Hopefully they will line the chutes with slick sheet material like the yamaha walk behind snow blowers to enable the user to throw the snow crap even further away and also prevent them from icing up as the slick sheet material will prevent the chutes from becoming a heat sink.

The single stage design is set up to allow the snow thrower rotor to be pushed back to allow a more thorough sweeping of the housing to prevent ice buildup between the snow blower rotors auger edges and the steel weldment that surrounds it.

I am all in favor of having a simple way of doing things and this is a very simple way of doing snow removal where an open auger and a 4,5 or 6 blade impeller is not required to cast snow away.

If you look at the MK Martin web page showing these snow throwers the snow thrower pictured is the former Riest Series 2000 hydraulic drive snow thrower not the original Reist Series 1000 snow thower which is now the Meteor 1048 snow thrower.

So please do not get scared off by the unit in the image as it is not the series 1048 rear mount PTO unit.

They are working on changing the web page to show the correct images of the single stage snow throwers.

I have uploaded quite a few pictures of these Riest single stage snow throwers on the forum as well as the former Reist series 1000 snow thrower manual.

Me too.
I can't see how fixing a roller chain that (hopefully) breaks is simpler than putting in a new sheer bolt.
What connect the cross shaft to the gearbox or sprocket? Bolts?

The old Reist design from 2012 has a shaft and collar at the right angle gear box stub shaft end and at the end of the shaft it has a keyed sprocket.

In that years manual the hydraulic drive set up has a lovejoy coupler.

The rubber torsion arm is an improvement on the old design which used a retainer plate to hold the large sprocket in place that held the chain under tension.

I will upload the old manual when I have a few extra minutes

The two images I uploaded are of a Riest series 1000 hydraulic drive single stage snow thrower with the 13 inch diameter snow thrower rotor.

You can see the access door for inspecting and or repairing the chain drive in the second image.

The 2 sprockets are also easily accessed by opening the access door.

The driven sprocket is secured with a locking compression ring.

True but you still need high flow of 25-35 gallons per minute to use for the impeller and cross auger.

Does anyone know about Quick Attach's rear pull, or rear push 72 inch snowblower? They are having a year end sale and I was just curious. I have heard about Meteor but I know nothing about them. Everything attachments stuff has been awesome I have no complaints. I'm looking for advise from snowblower owners.

Did you read any of he material I posted earlier? The Meteor snow blowers are made in Canada by MK Martin and are of very high quality build, The rear pull snow blowers take lot of horse power to run where the meteor single stage rear mounts require much less power to clear snow.

Yes I did read your post leonz and I appreciate the info, do you have a meteor snowblower? I figured a rear push snowblower would be more than enough for my driveway. I just was interested in the rear pull since I figured if I was going to spend the money I only wanted to do it once and get what I wanted. My tractor puts out 35 hp at the PTO. When I talked with a meteor sales rep on Monday he recommended the rear pull. I had never even hear of them till a few days ago. There is a dealer of meteor close to where I live I just have not had a chance to stop in and look yet.

Sadly I have john deere junk.

Buying a single stage model 1048 meteor rear mount with the built in wings will be more than enough snow thrower for your needs as long as you keep the throttle up, you do not need a pull behind.

The issue for you is going to be whether you will be better able to use a rear pull as:

1. YOU need room to work

2. They are more expensive in a 2 stage unit versus a meteor single stage pull behind unit

3. If you are buried by a deep snow storm they will be useless. UNLESS YOU go out every two hours during a major snow event/storm.

4. if you do not have chains and or ballasted tires your going to have to go out much more often and overnight heavy snow fall will limit your ability to clear it if you are not out there every couple of hours.

Its best to just let the snow drop and then clear it.

Using a single stage is less work and requires less power as you are not using an impeller.

I am not trying to spend your money.

The rear mount single stage will cost you much less money to own and operate and save fuel and be more efficient at taking full and half cuts as there is no spillage.
if you can sit sidesways in the seat and push down on the reverse pedal or you have a dash mounted reverse lever you will have no issues with operating it.

I know, for certain, if I were to ever get another snow thrower - it would be a pull type. I already have a shoulder, that due to arthritis or bursitis or some type of 'sitis, aches 24/7. The doctors had better figure out pretty soon some kind of cure because the pain killers I have just are not cutting it.

I had a standard 3-point - "going backwards" type and doing my yard plus my mile long driveway plus my mailbox area put my neck and shoulders in pain for two to three days after a plowing event.

However - the big 'ol Rhino 950 on the 3-point does a wonderful job and will clear the heaviest of berm buildups that I could ever experience here.

Besides - a rear blade has so many and varied uses. I tried using it to blow water out of a pond that forms at the end of my driveway - no joy there.

Thanks for the advise leonz, my driveway is only about 120' so looking backwards is no big deal for that little bit of time. It seems when we get snow anymore it is 6" or more. Having lake effect is great two years ago we were dumped with 39" in a day so its not uncommon to get a bad storm and alot of snow at once.

Are you on the Erie Pa. side of the lake or the Fairport Harbor side of the lake?

You will not regret investing in a Meteor 1048 single stage as you will be able to upgrade it in the future with a hydraulic chute rotation and hydraulic chute control if and when you trade up to a bigger mule with 2 sets of remotes and you will never lack for torque as long as you let it work slowly using the rated engine speed for the rear Power Take Off and just let the snow fly.

if you have a deep snow dump you make the first pass and then you can take half cuts and still blow the crap across the road in the ditch if there is a ditch and you can clean up the edges more quickly.

As as you have weight for adhesion/traction you will be fine. adding chains is always a good idea if you can afford them.
