My JD manuals have warnings ALL over the place, almost every page it seems, explaining that the hydraulic lines MUST be relieved of pressure before disconnecting. If a body part is sprayed with oil which is under pressure the oil can penetrate deeply. If a doctor does not removed all the oil gangrene can set in and you get to loose said body parts. The JD manual even has a phone number for the JD Medical Department so that a treating doctor can be told the proper procedure to clean up the wound.
Relieving the pressure is easy, turn off the engine, and move your controls, FEL, backhoe, whatever, and the pressure is gone.
