Quick Hitch issues

After messing around with the quick hitch more over the weekend, its just not worth the effort to retro fit it and all my implements to make it work. So I ordered a Pats and will be selling the quick hitch setup. Seems like the best alternative to making hitching up quicker and easier with the mixed bag of implements that I have.

I wouldn’t sell until you are happy with the pats system.

during my research, anyone with a cat 2 hitch didn’t quite have the favorable reviews of the pats system as all of the cat 1 people do.

I really like my pats Qh . I had purchased a regular Qh from speeco and didnt like it . took it back . As others have said , grindind down the sides of the balls is easy. I have read on here where others have done that.

I agree with grinding the balls to fit the slots. Easy fix.

After having a heart attack with respiratory complications I can't imagine what I would do now if my equipment was not quick hitch compatible. Being able to switch out implements without leaving the seat means I can still use my tractors. Much better than staying inside the house missing out on tractor work.

I have two I Match quick hitches that have worked well so far and both are the original model with welded (fixed) top hook. I recommend most guys take the time to make sure all implements fit a quick hitch.

Easy, yes. But it is a permanent alteration of the tractor arms.

If the implements work with the QH, a good recommendation you make, and the decision is to keep them, then a less permanent alternation would be to modify the QH. If the owner does not have the tools or skills, find a fabricator. It should be an easy change, then if the pins are sloppy in the balls get some Cat1 / Cat2 sleeves at a farm / tractor store.

I figured I would come back with a status of where things are for me. I purchased a Pats system and really got to compare it to the quick hitch that I was struggling to get mounted.

I have a total of six implements. All different manufacturers and all of various ages. Of the six, only one would work with the quick hitch without mods. Two would require slight modification and the other three would not work as the QH was either too wide or two narrow in most cases by a 1/2 inch or so. It also would require modification of my tractor lift arms to accommodate a hitch. I do see the value though if I had a similar setup across implements and was able to make it work.

Pats setup. Was able to get this setup in about an hours worth of time. Hitching up is simplified for sure. I simply back up, get aligned, then lift the arms to it it to grab hold. I have to manually hook up the top link, and/or PTO or remote lines.

In my case only 2 of the six implements would not require me to get off the seat of the tractor to hook up. The other 4 require additional hookups anyhow, so not much advantage of the QH.

For me, having both systems here, working with my implements and how I use my tractor gave me a clearer picture what was the right setup for me. The Pats system makes a pretty handy Cat2 to Cat1 configuration which saves me from using bushings with all my implements having Cat1 pins. Pats clearly is the best option for me with what I have.

Good to know that you have not resorted to grinding away at your tractor arms. Really good. Now that you have settled on a solution, be aware that some farm/ranch stores (Tractor Supply for me), you can find replacement pins that change your existing Cat1 pins to a Cat2 diameter. Cat1 pins use a smaller bolt hole than Cat2 pins. These replacement pieces use a Cat1 bolt with Cat2 sized pin diameter. This will reduce the "slop" when connected.

i am surprised that the Pat's fixed the problem with the oversized arm balls. I have a Mahindra and the ball they use rolls around in the arm so it can be used for cat1 and cat2. That makes the balls around 1.75" wide. (see attached photo)

I know the harbor freight QA wouldn't fit and I didn't think the Pats would either. I hope someone tells me I am wrong because I really would like to find a set of QA that would work.

How hard is that steel used on those balls in case I have to grind them down. Anyone with real world experience with this?

The real solution with QH is to get it properly mounted on tractor, by doing what ever is necessary, then fit each implement to QH, if it does not match, make it match.... Do this once for each implement, instead of fighting archaic system forever.... Back up to implement, lift 3PH/QH and grab implement, snap locks and be happy....
