I agree. It is a little faster and requires less finesse, but there are multiple drawbacks. The true QHs require all std spacing, and all, even Pats, set the implement back 4" or so giving it more leverage on the tractor [a less stable setup] and often have to have a longer top link and pto etc [$]. Ill suffer with extendable lift arms until I become invalid, Pats is for the wifes tractor.

I will give you the argument that standardized spacing is required for a QH. If not the equipment will need to be modified. Rarely a pto shaft isn't long enough but conversely I have had to cut a pto shaft shorter to fit on tractor without a QH. I have 1 mower that did require a pto extender. A longer toplink is not needed. A few inches further back is usually not going to make or break the ability to lift an implement or significantly change the stability.
If your implements are cat I spacing, it is much easier and quicker with a QH.

My TSC is always out of the bushings also. I started using these instead.

Tractor Supply Company - Category 1-2 Draw Pin

Cat 1 - 2 pins. They are cat1 threaded portion and cat 2 where it goes in the quick hitch. They have worked out well are always in stock at my local TSC and are alot cheaper. They don't have the flared out section on the end but that hasn't been a problem. I use them on my 6' rear blade, sub-soiler, and rock rake with no problems. I'll try to get a pic or two up if anyone's interested.

Call Michelle at Brandt distributors in Colorado. She'll set you up.

Any thoughts on which quick hitch to buy? A quick search found prices from Harbor Freight's $89 to somebody's >$500. I just ordered a new JD 4320 because my Kubota B2710 keeps breaking down on me (probably working it too hard), so I guess JD's iMatch would be the obvious (if costly) choice, but if I don't have to spend the money...

Apologies in advance if this is viewed as a thread hijack. I viewed it as the logical follow-on to the original poster's question.

for me, the perfect system is
pats system
link extenders
hydraulic top link

Reasons.... most flexibility, least cost, fits on all equipment, ease of hookup ....

I bought the Land Pride.

Made in the USA in Kipp, Kansas (important to me as I was an American blue collar worker myself)..

Costs a little more than the Asian imports, but of much higher quality. No need to spread or compress the arms with PortaPower, cut and reweld, etc...

I also have the telescoping lower arms and don't find a need for one on the back but it sure would be nice to have something like that up front when changing the bucket for the grapple. I just put wheels on a palet and store what ever I am not using on that so I can move it around without to much trouble.

my ck30 has the telescoping lower arms and for the longest time I didn't "get" why folks were ordering something like a quick-hitch etc.. I didn't know other tractors didn't come with them. :)

While I'd rather have pat's or something like it, it's really not a big deal...

I also have the Land Pride quick attach system. With the optional floating top link, I've never had a problem hooking-up to any implement. I can't imagine not having a quick attach.

I have the Land Pride and I wouldn't be without a QH of some kind. I started using the Cat 1 - 3 bushings on my implements to get a tighter fit on the lower links, and I found the need to make a new top hook to get better engagement, so I made one.

Get the Land Pride or another brand with an adjustable top hook. Makes life easier for hooking up implements that are close to the ASAE QH specs, or if you make adapters as I do, an adjustable top hook helps compensate for fabrication irregularities.

I have Pat's QA and it does space the implement back about 4" which does give the implement a little more leverage on the tractor. In most cases this is an advantage for me because I do alot of heavy loader work and it transfers the weight further back over the rear tires for added traction.

I like Pats, but wont put up with the drawbacks:

1] More leverage of implement against tractor.
2] Defeat of one set of articulating balls on the lift arms causing greater stress on pins and all the other pivots of the arms and lift links, esp in tilt situations.
3] Lengthens the working setup 4''. In very few cases is this a net benefit.
4] Susceptibility to damage and greater possibility of causing damage in comparison to the clean arm ends.

Its telescoping links for me.

I bought a quick hitch and found it took more time to hook up implements. Not all of the implements will hook into it without adapters or adjustments. So now, I go straight to the 3PT set up.

ctpres,

I'd love to see pictures of your Land Pride quick hitch in action, especially with the PHD. Got any to share?

Is their any advantage to buying attachments as part of a "system" to minimize interchangeability issues? For example, if I buy a Land Pride hitch should I buy Land Pride attachments? Would this minimize the need for a gazillion different bushings?

HiJack #2 :)

I have Pats and I think they're wonderful. I can't imagine hooking up a heavy accessory with out them. My problem is keeping the arms spread. I have a home made spreader for my tiller (a horz flat piece of metal with a vertical bolt on each end that goes thru the holes on each of Pat's), but it's not useful for other implements. What are other's using? I suppose I could put on telescoping stabilizers, but that's $150.

I use the Pat's Easy Change and it certainly makes the job of "hooking up" much easier for me. It has eliminated most tugging, pushing and lifting on my part and as an added benefit I have not had to adjust/readjust the check chains on my lower arms. I'll have a set on any 3 pt machine I own.

Check outthe little clamp on the cheap box spring frames. Its used to hold 2 pieces of angle together andlet them slide to the point you want and tighten a thumb nut to clamp. All you need is one of those clamps and 2 pieces the correct size angle with vertical bolt on end of each.

As far as I know, you can not use a 3pt quick hitch with a 3pt post hole digger.

Just ordered a Pats, couldn't find a quick hitch that would fit an older Woods Snowblower. The Pats system appears to be very flexible. Well I will know in a couple of days.

I ordered the stabilizer from Pats. It's adjustable and $20 + shipping.:)

Will do as soon as IKE blows by and we get back to normal. BAR BOB Ranch on dead center as of 7AM this morning. We are about 50 Mi north of Matagorda. Lots to do right now. Move sheep to high ground, board up windows and doors, move small stuff inside etc.
