quiet tractors

i recently test drove a GC2300 massey ferguson sub-compact, i couldnt believe how quiet it was. it wasnt even as loud as our riding lawn mower. do yall know of any other small diesle tractors that are quiet?

If you are a little hard of hearing like we are all tractors are fairly quiet.

Both of the MF compacts that I have had have been really quite. I know several members here have spoken about having to use ear plugs. I don't see any need as quite as my tractor is.

It seems that they are really getting the diesel engine to a fine science. I haven't had much experience with new tractors.... but I know that the new Ford and Chevy diesels are really quiet. It's almost amazing how quiet they are!

That's the truth. A coworker of mine has a VW Jetta Diesel and you've got to listen pretty well to hear the diesel knock. It's very quiet.

My CK20 is much quieter than my Hustler ZTR. Still, it's loud enough that I want to wear ear protection since it doesn't really take much volume to cause damage.

When I got my Kubota BX23 I wondered how noisy it was since I am close to my neighbors houses and knew I was going to put a lot of hours on the tractor. At an idle I can't even hear the tractor if I walk around to the other side of the house. When it is revved up it obviously gets louder but it is still not as loud as the typical lawnmower , weed wacker, or gas powered riding mower.

My JD2210 is also surprisingly quiet. I still wear noise canceling headphones when I mow, but it is much quieter than any other gas tractor in our neighborhood. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Just a thought: I found that having to keep the rpm up for optimal HST operation increased the volume from the machine vs the gear model (I seem to leave the throttle at a much lower average rpm).

However, the gears will make a howl if you are travelling in high gear!!
