R14T Tires

Was told that in testing the R14T only had about 5-10% more slippage in field applications than R1 lug. Similar to R4 performance. Roading much better than R1 lug. Technically R14T is an R1 with a unique tread pattern that they are calling R14T.View attachment 591872View attachment 591873View attachment 591874View attachment 591875View attachment 591876

That 5-10% number can mean the difference of accomplishing a job or not. I don't see them nearly as effective for high traction work R1's are designed for. The reason is two fold. 1. The centre of the tire is filled with a tread pattern. This will prevent the tire from sinking in and grabbing hold as the bars attempt to dig in to gain traction. 2. An R1 tire's lugs are higher from periphery to tire center allowing for increased grab.

Basically, I feel this tire is a compromise attempting to capitalize on all parameters especially travel smoothness. May be the Weimaraner of tires.

I'll keep my Firestone R-1's. With the size of my rears and the potential of needing new rims........ Besides I need R-1 for what I do. Not a compramise.

these new pattern tires would be perfect for my new Massey. Radial R1 Trelleborgs have enormous traction and make an enormous mess of my wet fields, most of which are mowed, not tilled. I can't even think of taking the tractor on the lawn areas, about 5 acres. So I can't use the FEL for garden bed mulch like I did before with R4's. Maybe it's because last year, and so far this year..., have been so wet, but in my hobby farming activities, I would sure like something with the ride of a radial R1 and the pattern of an R4 or close to it. I have no snow to contend with, and only run a disc and large rototiller for the fields. I like the Nokian pattern better, but gosh, would be nice for tirerack.com or something like that to do some comparison testing.

Muhammad,
I ran across those R14s last week while trying to find replacement tires for our old B5100D. It's rear tires are cracking turfs. A very interesting option for some applications, I'm sure, but not for this tractor based on how we use it. They look like they'd do a number on the grass, which is where the B5100D does more than half of its work, hauling trailer loads of soil, compost, bricks, firewood, etc. I'm curious how well the R14s work in the snow, as the R3 turfs + 4WD + diff lock + split brakes perform pretty well as long as everything stays frozen and I avoid anything really steep. Very interested in hearing about how well the R14s work from folks who use them in various conditions.

Speaking of snow ... I saw LouNY's comment:

Or these could be even better :dance1:
Nokian TRI 2 / Nokian Heavy Tyres

Never thought about looking at Nokian for tractor tires, but I do love me some Nokians on my commuter car!
I put a new set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 snows (205/60R16 96 R XL) on my old Mazda6, 3 winters ago.
They have been outstanding for snow, ice & winter rain driving. The sidewalls do get a bit "wombly" when a thaw comes, but it's a fair trade.
Great value, too. Plus they're made in Finland, by people who understand driving in snow.
