Tires R4-Turf debate is over for me!

Unless you only mow on flat ground, the turf tires are absolute crap. With R4s you can mw and do real work and get out of situations that would require a tow to get out of with turf tires. Been there, done that.

I don't know about that. Nothing flat on my property and I use turfs for everything. No complaints here even with toothbar and BH work. The turfs have never stopped me or had me wishing for some other tire, even in snow.

I don;t know - I seem to be reasonable (splitting the difference and in the middle with everything) and I am planning to run R4's and a plow this winter - I don;t expect it to be able to plow 36 inches of snow but surely it can plow 18 inches with R4's?? I am not planning to pile it up 80 inches high but I hope to push it into a reasonable pile.

funwithahoe,

I don't know what your R4's are attached to, but my BX2660 has loaded R4's and I had little trouble pushing around 12-14" snow last year on our long, hilly gravel drive. I doubt you will, either.

You have hills in the KY? LOL

Ok, so R4s are good for caring weight because of the strong sidewall design and also are good on harder surfaces. Whereas R1 tires are better on softer ground and would wear very quickly on pavement. Turfs are good on pavement but don't have the load caring capabilities of R4s.
Correct?
Just trying to get my head around it.
Thanks

I would add that R4's have greater puncture resistance, as well. One of my prime reasons for going with R4's is the extent of brush clearing and trail blazing through the wooded portions of our property I do. I'd wager turfs wouldn't fare well under those uses.

I have to admit, I am very careful when going through the woods here. I look very carefully before I drive.

I personally like my R4's with chains on my L4200, but my tractor is used in the woods and in my fields, both plowing and cutting grass.

And on my B2150 I have turf tires for mowing around my house

As others have said on here each person uses their tractors for different things.
