I have a problem and need to know where to start to repair. My tractor is letting the water from the radiator run into the oil. I drained all the oil out of the tractor and refilled. Then when I added water to the radiator the water started running out the oil overfill. I then checked the dipstick, which showed a high level of water-oil mix. This is all while the tractor not running. The radiator never did fill up. The tractor is a 25HP 4x4 Chinese built Shinui tractor 2002 model with a 3 cylinder deisel engine. Also where could I find a place to fix if I'm unable to do it myself in central Arkansas. I don't have any experence working on an engene block.

Well I'm by no means an expert on diesels but as the cooling system is similar to automotive engines the first place I'd look at is the head gasket (relativly easy fix) other potential and more severe areas are cracked blocks, sleeves or heads or a bad sleeve seals. I'm sure there can be other sources for leaks but these are the most common. Did this tractor sit in freezing weather without anti-freeze in it?

Good Luck

Rawdawg,

It would be very helpful if you could give details to what led up to the event before the water got in the oil.
Did it overheat or exposed to long periods of freezing weather?

What is worriesome is the fact that the water pours out the overfill tube. Without starting the tractor, that is an indication the fluid levels are below the cylinder head and gasket. It may indicate a large break in the cyl. wall, sleeve, water jacket or broken oil passage way.

Are you the original owner and bought it new? I hope HankC is right, and he may be if the tractor overheated enough to blow the head gasket.

I'am sure someone will chime in here and help you out a little better.

Regards Mark

maybe you can post the MFG of the engine in here? if it is of a similar design many of us may be able to help, I don t have nay shinnue experance but I do belive there is/are soem internal freeze plugs under the valve cover on the y3xx engines. these have been known to be shipped form china with water in there and freeze and pop the plugs which lets this happen, a few years back there were several reports of this very thing.

anyhow if this is old tractor that had/has been running them perhaps somethign new has happened.

If it is a 3 cylinder 25HP there is a good chance it has a Yangdong engine which is common. We are in Knoxville Arkansas, between Russellville and Clarksville off of I-40, maybe we can help ARTRAC

Are you sure about the brand name "Shinui"? A Google search on the name only turns up that it is the Hebrew word for "change". More info on the tractor may be needed. Someone did mention the possibility of a gear driven waterpump, which, if present, would be a good possibility.

Thanks to everyone so far. I"ll post more information on the tractor in the morning when I get back home. I think bluechip may be right on the engine brand, but I have to look to be sure.
Thanks,

Try "shennui"

Thanks , Greg, actually it's "Shenniu", aka "Shinu-Bison", hardly any info, however.

OK, here are more details:
Tractor: Shenniu - Model: SN254 - Rated Power: 17.7KW
Engine: Yangdong Y385 - HR output: 18.4KW 2350/min
Date: 2002 5
54 HRS

The tractor had been stored in freezing temps. For a while. I needed it to put out a couple round bails of hay late one night. I always check all fluid levels after I park it so it is always ready to go. Everything was fine until I parked the tractor and noticed some steam coming from the front of the tractor. I looked at the heat gauge and it was hot so I got the hose and tried to add water to the radiator, but the water was running out the left side of the engine block. I fumbled around and found a round cap that had popped out. I replaced the cap and tried to fill the radiator again and before it filled up, the water started to run out of the oil-overfill. The next day I drained the oil and refilled. With the tractor not started, I added water to the radiator and in a moment it started to run through the oil-overfill again, without the radiator level becoming visible.
